it looks like every effect has been turned off and low textures also used in the first shot of the o.p. and it seems pixel shader 2.0 is not in use which the game uses at least it will of course use 3.0 if you have a card which has it.

with it being a 5600, the game will have probably automatically switched the render pipe to ps 1.1 or even none to compensate as the 5600 is slow for this game.

the 2nd image is better imo, higher texture resolution, shadows,liquid reflections, smoke, bump mapping , etc, makes it look more rounded and have more depth and overall has a photo realistic finish

the other image {1st} looks flat and depthless

yeah the old "upgrade from AGP to PCIe is a sure wallet lightener. :(

I did it last year. The next upgrade won't cost me a new pc :p
 
Probably see an improvement, if you have CNC3 you could see what you can get make on your card, post a pic and then compare to mine.

I also had to actually turn down the default settings from medium to low on the 5600, seeing as the framerate was attrocious and play was no fun at all.

I thought is was slightly off topic in their as how it was about difference seen in an upgrade, not about the cards themselves (or is it??)

You had a choice of the Games section or the Graphic Card section and yet posted in a completely unrelated non-technical off-topic section. That takes some doing. :D

Massive difference between the pics though, seeing differences like that makes any upgrade feel pretty special. :)
 
Hehe, well i did do this at 3am in the morning, so thats my excuse for it being in the wrong forum (or not the best choice of forum)
 
I bought CNC3 the other day and after playing it on my machine my mate wanted it too. After installing it and realising his graphics are crap, he decided he either should get a new graphics card or just go and buy the original CNC.

It looked THAT bad, that I would have more fun playing the original. Mind you, Generals used to work fine at a higher res.

Thought it was quite interesting to see the difference.
And its safe to say I wont be leaving such a large span before upgrading again. :)
