This is why I hate working nights

He looks like a police dog, apart from the constant expression that says "Eh?" all the time. He's actually quite frightening when he goes bananas at someone though, but there's always that chance he'd have gone nuts a second too late.

Well, all the doors and windows are locked, the dogs in the bedroom with the wife, so there's nowt I can do beyond that.
Gonna be a long six hour now, but she's insisting I stay at work.

Sounds like a police dog, My dad was like this about my Mum before he left. He looked into getting something like Pepper spray, a taser or something so she can protect herself.

Problem is, if she used it then she could potentially get banged up for upto 5 years and/or a massive fine since they class as firearms :(. Sad state of affairs when you aren't allowed anything with which to defend yourself.

If it weren't for the VCR Bill, I'd send her out with one of my airsoft guns... but aside from the legalities, I've seen her shoot, and its not awe inspiring

Even the spray ? :S

There must be something out their for women. Rape alarms don't work at all, there not even that loud. Maybe try an extremely highpowered fog horn, I once got downed off one really hurt my head!

change the route, and the time. brightly lit, well-populated areas only from now on.

I read something similar on the runnersworld forum recently, a woman was attacked in a nearby tourist spot, thankfully she got away but under extreme duress - to say the least.

no point in taking any chances.

Yeah, but she cant really carry it on her in the street. might have to paint one bright yellow so its not confused with a real gun... which'd mean it wont deter anyone until they feel the bb hit them.

The fact that she had the dog with her may have been enough to put this guy off from actually doing anything. I would advise her not to walk alone for a while, if possible. Strength in numbers and all that.

It's a horrible feeling when this kind of thing happens. I live on the Isle of Wight and it's a fairly safe place to be honest. However, a few times over the last three years I have known my girlfriend, she has been followed home almost to her door. The fact that she stuck to well-lit areas and the trickle of traffic along the main road to her house probably prevented anything else happening, thank goodness.

Hope it's just a one-off scare mate :)

Cheers guys, I really appreciate all your support...
I got her to ring the police on their non emergency line, just in case it happens again or someone else gets bother...
Also had a chat with a dog handler that popped up on site.

Can he or she teach your dog to aim straight for the todger? :p

Sorry, bit immature I know, but it's late and the best way to put a man down and ensure he remains down for a while :D

Yes unfortunately. Anything which expels a toxic liquid (which mace, CS etc is) is still classed as a S5 firearm :(. You can get UK legal sprays, which are bright red/blue sticky sprays which foam up when you hit someone with them. It apparently takes a while to get off and it'll stain their face bright red/blue and even after they've washed that off they'll still have a stain which shows up under UV light so the police can identify them for a few days afterwards.

My girlfriend got a rape alarm a while ago thanks to a scary encounter she had with a druggy. They make a stupidly loud noise, I'd have thought it would be a really good thing to have in case of emergencies.

Glad she's ok mate.

Like others have said may changeing her route when she's on her own may be in order, or maybe you both walk him/her before you're shift starts and them let him onto the garden before she goes to bed.

We try to walk ours together before 8pm and if it's not possible then I'll do it. To be honest though I doubt anyone would attack the g/f due the dogs size & breed type.

I had something like this this a little while back, some chav scag head type was following me, then he started running. I stopped.
Oi mate can I help? I says
He just mumbled something about wondering if i had a spare fag.

What can you do, if he's gonna try and come for me it's on my grounds.

Perfume or deoderant would do the job just as well as pepper spray ;)

Oh, glad she's ok. I'm sure the dog would have protected her just fine though. Even the soppiest of mutts can surprise you :)
