This is why it's important to support AMD when they release a competitive product. #CPUGATE

CPU performance has stagnated while prices have increased.. by an obscene amount in some cases.
To all the OEM's and end users out there. Ask yourselves, do we really want to add to a companies overwhelming monopoly by shutting competition out of the market. Just so they can abuse their position and extort more money from it's customers and only offer marginal 'upgrades' each year.

I for one have had enough and if Intel goes back to it's bad habits. Everyone (even Intel fans) should call them out on their BS. Just maybe, their marketing/PR department will get the message if people become vocal enough. Frankly I think the health of the CPU market depends on it, as I don't think AMD will survive another round like last time.

My largest concern about Intel "playing dirty" is compilers. Intel have their own compiler which you can licence and it's very good. But it has also discriminated against AMD chips. If you're a big software vendor and you use Intel's compiler to get more performance, it may run worse than it should on AMD chips.

Now I don't know how much this situation has changed since I knew about it. I don't know how much market dominance Intel's compiler has these days and I'd welcome a comment from anyone who's more informed on this.

I agree, it's very important to buy AMD chips. Though from what Gibbo is saying so far that's not going to be a problem in the home builder market. It's the server market where Intel might get really nasty.

If they are up to this again then I hope they get hammered. The thing that really bugs me right now is that AMD is doing itself no favours at the moment. They expect people to pre-order Ryzen yet keep this ridiculous NDA on reviews until 2nd March. If they expect people to splash the cash then they should let the reviews come out so that people can see what they are buying into.

Indeed. And what people should understand is. When Intel goes after AMD using illegal practices. They don't do it just to kill off AMD. They do it so they can ripoff their OWN customers, yet so many of their (Intel) customers seem to welcome this. They seem to think 'they' win, when Intel abuses their position.

Intel most certainly have history of this a decade ago but lets face it, it's a wccftech 'article' and the 'source' is Charlie from semi-accurate.

Intel have been known for certain practices for a while now.

Oh joy another gate saga, can people no longer name things originally?

One of the comments from this website worries me.

It's upsetting to have to say, but should be said. As an IT Director I have already been approached by an Intel representative to discuss the "special promotions" and "Incentive rebates" that they are willing to offer me for purchasing exclusively Intel powered servers. I was not well received when I explained that I would not be purchasing anything until I see the benchmarks of the new Ryzen (naples) core and compare the cost-to-performance ratio. It was at that point they made it very clear that they would go to great lengths from a financial standpoint to incentivize me to NOT purchase AMD chips.
These are the tactics that were used back in the day that AMD had feared would be used again. Intel offered "loyalty rebates" and other clever promotions to hide the fact that they were paying customers to lock out the competition. I sincerely hope that other IT Directors and all in IT in general do what's best for the industry and choose based off of what's best for the consumer and their environment. The rebates are nice and all, but if we continue to hurt AMD for a small rebate, we destroy AMD's ability to compete and enable Intel to continue their "Tick-Tock" releases and oppressive pricing.
Be aware folks, Intel is scared and is already looking to use their weight and $'s to NOT out innovate, but to obstruct competitions ability to enter the marketplace. Why else would they be contacting and attempting to "Incentivize" customers well before the launch of AMD's server chips in Q2-Q3?
Sorry for the rant, but these past few years from Intel have been terrible from a pricing and tech innovation standpoint. I would hate to see AMD get the shaft after building such a great product over the last 5 years with the help of Jim Keller and AMD architect Mike Clark. They did such a great job turning the CPU division around it should have the ability to be judged on its own merits and not locked out by Intel to prolong the CPU stagnation in the market."

The sad truth is, I really believe Intel WILL employ the same tactics again. It works out more profitable for Intel. They earn more profit acting illegally than they lose in paying fines.

I've gone from 4ghz i7-920 to x5650 @4ghz. I nearly went for 6800k but then saw all this AMD commotion.
I'm not bottlenecked by CPU on anything from what I've tested but do miss some modern features. Saying that my USB3 PCIe card seem to be running my Rift just fine.
People love a bargain and to me this whole Ryzen frenzy is because people feel they are getting a great bargain. We've been used to Intel prices and even if we don't need to upgrade....we do just coz it seems a great bargain, *ONLY* £700 for a CPU, mobo, and RAM change!
Bargain compared to Intel = justification

As much as i would love to own a ryzen 1700 x i just cannot afford it so it will be a 1600 x, mobo ram cpu cooler power supply cd drive pc case i expect it to be £600-700 but will be re using gtx 970.

Hopefully vegas (gpu) will be like ryzen with the price.

Well looking at the leaked pricing for the 4C and 6C models,it might be quite possible to get a 6C R5 1600X and a B350 motherboard for slightly more than the current price of a Core i7 7700K!

Agreed with what many are saying/thinking. AMD will sell a lot more now to the likes of enthusiasts like us lot vs intel. But intel will just do what they did last time in regards to big companies, corporation's buying their processors. Not to mention they are still in full control of the laptop market at the moment. Which is massive on its own.

No doubt we WILL see price drops once RYZEN is under full swing but i dont think it will be as much as everyone is expecting.

BUT, i for one am really looking forward to the competition. Like the good old days, competitive prices and good performance jumps. Just need VEGA to destroy pascal now :)

Contributing to the decline of the computing/gaming market by being a mindless sheep is more cringe imo. But hey, I guess intelligence and principles are 'cringe' these days.

Many of us have been enjoying the benefits of 6 cores and more with great performance in tow with DDR4 for over 3 years. Competition is good, but honestly - lets not make this another Gameworks-gate.

Or just buy the product that fits your workload / offers the best performance to within your budget.

Concerning yourself with internal politics is cringe.

Nobody is forcing you to care beyond your next immediate cycle, but there's nothing cringing about those of us that do.

He knows this. Just like last time, there were plenty of posters that didn't want people to care because 'they' didn't care. They didn't care because they see it as their 'team' is winning. When in reality, they as consumers lose in next series of CPU cycles.
Personally I've only ever bought Intel CPU's. But enough is enough.
