Its for my daughters, they only use low power stuff.
I have an ideapad with an i3 and its great but I want cheap with decent battery life.

Bit lost when it comes to laptop cpus

Any good?

Personally, I think thats underpowered, even for low power stuff. It's not going to be too long before it's on its knees. I've just bought a dual core Celeron, 4 GB RAM, Win 7 64, 320GB HDD for only £80 more than that for my daughter. I know that's more but the outlay for the £280 you are proposing would appear to be false economy.

Cheers, thats my concern is that buting at the very bottom end will result in a short life.

What have you just bought (i know you cant directly link).

Take a look at this thread....

For this excellent buy, at £350 :

Acer TravelMate 8371

Intel® ULV Core 2 Duo (ULV SU9400, 3 MB L2 cache, 1.4GHz, 800MHz FSB)
13.3" (Acer CineCrystal, 1366x768 HD, High Brightness, LED Backlit)
Win Vista Business
4GB (DDR3 1066MHZ)
320GB
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 with 512MB Dedicated RAM
5-in-1 card reader (SD//MS/MS-Pro/MMC/xD-Picture card™)
3x USB 2.0 ports
Kensington lock slot
8 Hrs+ Battery Life
1.6Kg

Shame about Vista, not W7, but that can easily be remedied......otherwise excellent VFM and top spec :-)

As mentioned the spec is quite low.

I would personally look around as a well known online only site had the following on offer yesterday for £320.

Acer Aspire 5732Z - 444G32MN / Pentium Dual Core T4400 2.2GHz / 4GB / 320GB / DVD-SM / 15.6 inch / Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit / Laptop / Notebook

Thanks, Ive looked at that but unfortunately vista puts me off. I really want win7, so when thats factored in the price goes up.

Fair comment :) There is also the 'consumer' version of that laptop - 3810TZG floating around for about £20 more.....that comes with very similar spec, but W7....details in the same thread

laptop prices are so volatile.

If only it had a 13 inch screen (tempted by another 15 inch but a lot heavier and less battery time)

Thanks for all your comments..the hunt continues.:)
