As I don't have insurance I got my local bike mot place to pick up my bike do the fork seals and then do a mot for me.

I called them up and everything was done but with extra +£40 on top for some head light switch and other stuff that I would need to pass the mot.

No one called me to ask if wanted the work done and lucky for me it was just £40 so next time I will go some where else :(

I really don't think they done any extra work myself and just scamming money.

Don't use them again, find somewhere that will discuss failures with you prior to carrying out the work.

Personally, I make sure they do so. I once had my 748 fail due to dodgy front wheel bearing. They called, I rode the bike home, took wheel off, fit new bearing, took it back and re did test. All fine.

If they had done the work them selfs without notifying me I wouldn't have paid. Straight up.

The MOT is to check the vehicles road legality and safety. Not an excuse to carry out the work to make it road legal. That is another matter.

So yea, not illegal, but terrible service as it's a scam in my opinion.

you don't need insurance?

your covered to and from the mot station, same for no road tax

If he's got no insurance, how on earth can he be covered insurance wise to and from the mot station?.

Ide really like to see that in writing on a ukgov site and not anecdotal evidence as that's a new one on me, 34 years of riding bikes & ive never heard that before.

You need insurance lol, its road tax that you can get away with if stopped provided you have an appointment booked,

Having no insurance is a separate issue to having no MOT. You are covered having no MOT taking the bike to the garage to carry out an MOT but you still need insurance.

you don't need insurance?

wazza are you awake
he/or anyone still needs insurance to take an car to a mot place. say if you take an car for a pre-book mot and you got no insurance and on the way you hit someone or an vehicle you won't have a chance.

the only other way round this if you get the mot to pick the car/bike up

your covered to and from the mot station, same for no road tax

It is not an offence to drive a motor vehicle without a valid MOT if:
you are taking it directly to a pre-arranged MOT test,
you are taking it to a place of repair after it has failed an MOT test in order that it will be able to pass the test.

Insurance is required to take a motor vehicle to an MOT test. Driving without an MOT does not automatically invalidate your insurance - insurers are more likely to be concerned about how roadworthy your vehicle is than whether or not your MOT was up-to-date.
If you are stopped by police when you do not have an MOT, they will also take this into account - you may still be found guilty of an offence if your car is deemed unsafe to drive, even if you are driving it straight to an MOT or a place of repair.

I have not done my full test yet so can't ride it but was going to get insured with my friend as a named driver so he could for me.

But could not get it so was better to let them pick it up keep things legal.

The bike going to be sold in a few days and changing from a GSX f 600 to an XJ 600 as I could not ride a GSX now after stomach operation it's too heavy and riding position would hurt like hell after a while.

The xj feels like a big 125cc and more up right riding position.

tbh id forgot

I knew it was something you didn't need,it was tax:D

made you think tho didn't it;)

EDIT: where u from gothic? I would have rode it for you if you were close by,gotta watchout for the rip off merchants, you can tell the muppet mot places when they fail it on a missing rear reflector!!!

the place I go to passes it with loud illegal pipes on,worn tyres ect he just says get them done asap and passes it
