This made me laugh...

Hmm, just noticed this news has spread to eurogamer and gamesindustry. If this isn't the kind of public news Microsoft wanted to hear, they should have solved this many months ago.

EDIT:

From Eurogamer:

Id be a dubious that a company that trys to sell extended warranty's comes up with damming figures. I mean, its not as if they will be selling warranty plans if the xbox isnt failing is it ;)

(Im not saying the Xbox isnt unreliable im just saying i'd take figures from a company that sells warranty plans with a pinch of salt)

Microsofts newest range are a lot more reliable and rumours are that the Valhalla range (the ones coming out next) are as good as silent because the GPU and VGU are lower nm with better motherboard and airflow design.

But have they made the drives quieter? The fan noise never really bothered me too much but that DVD drive was like a monster when it spun up high!!!

In the current new ones, no, mines probably louder than my launch one (which was quieter than my replacement PS3 but louder than my original PS3 - if you're still following). I don't know about the Valhalla ones.

Ah, damn, yeah I tried a search but found nothing. :/

Mods: feel free to delete this thread, I can't seem to close it like you can do on MM. Cheers.

haha, Whoops.

So there's no saying whether the console that died was new? old or was faulty out of the production line? Surely they would have checked their kit before putting it on display

I don't know why MS insist on having the Xbox360's on show. They should just have them out of view so that if they RRoD no one would know.

I can't get my head round this either, surely they must have thought, lets hide these away, everybody knows what they look like now, lets not risk another embarrasement

Nah.... Stick that in the fridge, take it out next day, allow unit to get to room temps, all will be fine..:D:p

Excellent games line up, on a shonky bit of kit at times.... I still bemoan how loud the darn thing is when turned on..

I'm sorry but is there any evidence that the new range is more reliable? I haven't seen any so was just wondering. Has the falcon been out long enough to make these claims?

No there is no evidence (just rumour and speculation) but you can't stop fanboys from preaching what they choose to believe. ;)

The Microsoft whistleblower claimed that the main fault of RROD's was due to the GPU generating too much heat, this is not expected to be corrected until it is shrunk to 65nm in late 2008 which will be the next major revision called Jasper...

This new "Valhalla" range that Nokkonwud speaks of are again RUMOURED to be the successor to Jasper and available in late 2009-early 2010:

Valhalla is likely to represent the final generation of the Xbox 360 ahead of its planned sequel and may not appear until late 2009 or early 2010."

...and the claim that they (quote) "are as good as silent because the GPU and VGU are lower nm with better motherboard and airflow design." is a funny one because the majority of noise is generated by the DVD-ROM.
