I'm expecting to be mocked and "ha ha'ed" at but frankly I don't care...
As you may know in my line of work I often have to climb up masts or up the superstructure of the yacht to play with satellite systems and what not. Obviously I always wear a harness - it would be foolish not to. This boat however has the most stupidly designed foot holds and hook points ever known to man. Climbing up is always the easy part for me, climbing down on a slippery polished piece of boat is not so easy...
Anyway having spent several hours in the sun on the mast enjoying the view and burning my fingers on the soldering I thought I deserved a nice cold drink. I hook myself up and start climbing down the side of the mast. Unhook myself, and re-hook myself. Needless to say that owing to some inspired moment of incomprehensible stupidity I hooked the laniard onto a non-fixed part of the boat (I foolishly assumed that the hook I attached myself to was fixed properly (it should have been - but it wasn't - it only had 1 loosely tightened bolt in it!
)).
I don't think I have to go on... You probably guessed it, yes I got a bit wet
A bit scary really as it was about a 30ft drop, fortunately there was nothing below me - just the edge of the yacht... I'm used to falling, and enjoy it - this however wasn't an enjoyable falling experience. Though I guess I did get to cool down a bit in the murky water of the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal / River Eider... Grumble grumble. At least it wasn't winter time. Plus I have to go back up there - and I just *know* everyone will be watching me this time.
