As they are the same number of each number its the same as the average of 153.9 and 296.1

Add them all up. Divide by the number of numbers. You could do it in google if you want.

(Assuming you want the 'mean')

I know the answer is 225.

So why does Excel tell me it's 84.34.

I used the average function, highlighted the exact same sequence of numbers and hello 84.34!

If there are 10 pairs you dont times the average by 10. It's 225

Wait a minute, is it because the numbers are derived from another equation that Excel is getting thrown i.e. I'm obviously doing something wrong?

It doesnt matter what cell you call in excel if it contants those numbers it should be right.

Oh fudge, just seen it's actually working 153.9 as a negative, but the cells are formatted as such that they don't show the minus sign.
