What's the average of this set of numbers?

Add them all up. Divide by the number of numbers. You could do it in google if you want.

(Assuming you want the 'mean')

So why does Excel tell me it's 84.34.

I used the average function, highlighted the exact same sequence of numbers and hello 84.34!
 
Wait a minute, is it because the numbers are derived from another equation that Excel is getting thrown i.e. I'm obviously doing something wrong?

How the hell has it made the average smaller than the smallest number?
 
Oh fudge, just seen it's actually working 153.9 as a negative, but the cells are formatted as such that they don't show the minus sign.

Ok, Excel was right, user error! *cough*
