I'm convinced of it. Can anyone think of a time when they have smiled and winked (at the same time) at someone without deliberately trying to be a **** to them?

I use the wink to show when I am using sarcasm and I wan't it to be obvious, or to highlight when I'm making a discrete joke... I wouldn't class either of those as smug.

Maybe I'm being subconciously smug?

I think a wink can be cool, a smile is nice, a smile then a wink is okay but a wink and smile makes a person look like a letcher

I've raised this before.

I hate that smiley. It's the most hateful, patronising smiley ever created, and I secretly want to break the knees of anyone that uses it directly to me.
