This weekend I will be mostly using.......

Good luck! Covered a wedding weekend just gone. Brutal - my legs killed when I got in at 1.30 am and on Sunday! Are you assisting or the lead?

Top Tip - if you're going to be doing a lot of weddings purchase one of these or something similar http://www.cameraslingers.net/ - I need to get one but have seen one in action and it looks the business. :)

Lead. I was pretty tired on Saturday just gone and that was only a reception lasting 4 1/2 hours!!

I've already got a Black Rapid RS-4 strap, and will probably get another and use as a dual sling thing if/when I actually buy a second body.

Well, if you find yourself low on memory, with your last 8G card, go to SRAW1 and keep going. That still have file size roughly the same as your 5D1.

Thanks for the tip :)

I haven't filled it ALL up yet but i allow rooms for card failing as I had a 8G card died on me once when i was in Hong Kong.

Do you back up the cards during the wedding? And if so, to what?
You say you've had a card fail on you.. have you ever done a shoot/wedding, taken photos which can't be redone/taken many photos and then the card fails? What would you do if that happens?

I don't back up on site but if the card fails I would change it like if it was full and keep going and recover it after with software.

It's that easy to recover using software? What software do you use/would you recommend?

I suppose if the card dies, the card dies - if the PC or camera doesn't pick it up, there's little you can do.

Still, if there's a degree of life in it, Zero Assumption Recovery even has a mode specific to memory cards. I tend to use it for standard file recovery - I've not needed to use it on a memory card yet, but if it's anything like the normal recovery, it'll be excellent. :)

I too use (genuine) Sandisk (both CF and SD) and I've never had a problem.

I've only ever had one die. That was when the camera was being used on a boat trip, got splashed with water a lot and it was -15deg c. The SD card lived so I was fine - with the dual card back-up thingy.

Interesting. What do you shoot with now?

Also, what lenses were you using with the 5D2, and what kinds of things were you shooting?

It's not that the 5D II is bad in any way, quite the opposite, it's a great piece of kit. It just seems to have gained some kind of weird status on this forum as the greatest piece of photography equipment the world has ever seen.

In truth it's just like using any Canon xxD camera, just with a bigger viewfinder (which you'll be well accustomed to anyway from your 5D).

I've used my friends with his 24-70L and my 24L a few times and it is a nice camera, it's just not incredible.

The only thing it does different to your 5D is HD video and have 21mp. Those things aside, I'd be surprised if you noticed any difference in 98% of shooting conditions.

Hmmm. Using my 5D is very different to when I used a 40D. I would assume the 5D2 would be even more so.

What more would it need to do for you? By the way, I'm not being some 5D2 fan boy, I'm just interested to know.

They are definitely not the only differences! For me, personally, it's the fact that my 5D is 6/7 years old now, and it does feel dated, in terms of actual features, menus, usability. I love it though, don't get me wrong.

Also, I would LOVE for my 5D to have the same LCD as the 5D2. The higher ISO capabilities and better low light capabilities are also a big plus for me. Video seems to not be a big thing for most people, but it really does interest me and I would love to get more into video production.

The LCD on the 5D isn't too bad. But unfortunatley the high-ISO on the 5DII aren't that much better than a 5D. When you resize the 5DII to the same size as a 5D you only really get half a stop better performance on the Mark II compared to the Mark I. It's not just me who thinks this either...

Juza (article the 5DII noise myth comparing a 1DsIII and 5DII - identical performances): The Canon 5D2 is actually a great camera - it has a lot of advanced features (live view, great video), great price/performance ratio, and a much smaller and lighter body than the 1DsIII. Its image quality is good, but it is in line with the 1DsIII (that uses an almost identical sensor) and it has not great high ISO capabilities: the Canon 1D4, and even the old 5D "Mark1" have lower noise at high ISO.

Not sure about this - I don`t want to come across as Mr Obtuse arguing for the sake of it, but in terms of High ISOs, the 5Dmk2 blows away the 5D classic - I would say ISO1600 on the 5Dmk2 is the same as ISO800 on the classic - I am happy for my assistant Kevin to use his 5Dmk2 at iso2500 during weddings as I know I am not going to have to worry about noise too much - with the 5D classic I have to be careful to nail the exposure bang on, or even a little over if I am shooting at ISO1250 or above.

The LCD on the 5Dmk2 is far superior, even better than the one on my 1dmk3.

Still, the 5D classic is a great camera, maybe it isn`t as feature rich as its younger brother, but it does what I need it to - take good high quality images. The LCD is a bit rubbish though - kind of yellowy and desaturated - I rely on the histogram a lot more than just `eyeing` it in.

I agree, the 5D LCD really ins't great. Nothing compared to more modern Canon cameras.

It's better than the two inch ones on my 1DII's! :D:D:D Luckily you don't really need the LCD other than for the histogram and custom functions - everything else like is of course on the other LCD's at the back and top.

HA! Fair enough.

I had no idea until Adam (Syke) told me that it uses the same AF system as the 5D1.

I'm sure I've brought it up in pretty every thread on the 5D II :p

I just think it's a bit crap that such an expensive camera can have such poor AF. It's no better than my 30D or even my 10D was.
