Way back when we all started discovering the internet there weren't that many websites about. What were some of your favourite legends and are they still about? Some that stick in my mind are:

Tom Winklers doodie.com with daily riské cartoons about defecation.

Afrosquad.com, now deceased but legendary stuff. Two guys in afro wigs, 70's gangster threads, blowing up melons and cruising about in a knackered old heap of junk. Afrosquad Dog, Pimpin Inside etc. Really miss those guys.

deathclock.com, had no idea this one was still going, literally seconds of fun before you go away and forget about it for another ten years.

Motor City Downs (really slow), Angelfire (whatever they did) and a few others which I've completely forgotten about...

What about that certain woman who had a cam in her flat 24/7 from way back in '99 (and earlier if I'm not mistaken). I wont mention her name as there are some risque shots of her going about her day-to-day business still available on the net... but it began with a J... First thing of its kind iirc.

Google says she's a Transexual? Dude... :(

just browse the angelfire directory... it's like surfing the internet 15 years ago. fantastic for a quick trip down memory lane! :D
1991, huh. That'd be rough as the first browser that rendered images, NCSA Mosiac, didn't come out until 1993. :p

EDIT: Nope, I'm wrong. WorldWideWeb, later renamed Nexus, came out in 1991.

The first internet 'craze/fad' site I remember coming across was www.hampsterdance.com back in my first year of uni (1998). Back then it was just a simple page with the music and rows and rows of the hampsters dancing.

www.somethingawful.com/jeffk came slightly later but was fairly unique at the time. I'm not sure exactly how original it was back then (I'm sure someone will have an example predating it) but one thing is for sure, the style has been ripped off by the internet at large. Look at the kind of language used on the 'net these days, even these modern parody shows like PurePwnage owe something to Jeffk.

Around the same time hamsterdance surfaced I remember site with what years later became crazy frog, just that back then it was background sound to a page with picture of Trabant.

Does anyone remember email craze with link to a website with something like a boy-seeks-girl letter written in very bad english by some strange looking Afgan or Kazah guy?
