Hi guys, just wondering what your thoughts are on a 06 onwards jaguar xk?

Im not buying anytime soon, but saw one yesterday and i really liked it. Really nice interior, nice engine sound. Have always liked jaguar interiors, they are much better than your merc/bmw interior without even trying.

Anyway, are there any owners here? Are they ridiculously expensive to run? Servicing costs big? Are there any known problems with them?

I think they look great, sound great, and are not bad for circa £20k.

Thoughts?

EDIT: it was this one at car giant

Wow, are these really only £20k now?

Well i was browsing yesterday and saw one for £23k, 08 plate with 65k on the clock.

Was blown away by it actually, had never thought of one before.

Also sat in an XF and it was lovely too!

The 25-26K XKR will be the older 4.2 Supercharged version which came from the S-Type R not the new 5.0 Supercharged. Its not a slow car by any stretch of the imagination just doesn't have the the Jag-Diff and the rising gear selector etc of the later ones.

Spend the extra to get the XKR. Ive seen them go for 25-26k.

Where did you find these?

Im realistically going to get a car in a years time, am looking to save about £20- £30K in the next year and treat myself to a car, all things going well and i pass my exam! The Celica will hopefully keep me going till then.

Have been slogging away for 4-5 years and now its time for some retail therapy :)

imo they look fantastic. For just over £20k though, that is shocking! If only I had £20k laying around lol

Im just a little sceptical about running costs, i guess i should check some forums. My brother used to have an x-type sport, but it wasn't without its problems - but i think it was just a bad egg.

Have to say the air vents in a jaguar xf are probably the best things i have ever seen in a car! :)

Yes

however i drove one on track, it was a modified Jaguar XKR on a palmersport trackday @ bedford.

I also drove other cars during the day which i think may have caused me to have such a bad opinion of the Jag.

I also only drove the XKR under track conditions not on the road.

All of the above were much more fun than the XKR i wasn't a fan of the 911 handling but then it was the first mid/rear engine RWD car ive driven i found it harder to control the back end.

the rally Clio with the straight cut box was awesome and I need to be physically fitter to drive the single seater properly.

But on topic the XKR felt sluggish I didn't like the auto box. At speed the under steer was horrendous requiring much lower speeds to corner effectively.

I'm sure for on the roads it would be a very nice car but my only experience of driving one was in these conditions. Comparing with other cars I drove on the day that felt much more responsive.

Which cars? The XK / XKR is reknowned for its sharp handling! At the end of the day though, it's an exec GT more than it is a track toy.

Even still though, reviews favour its handling (The 5 litre version) and heck, even Clarkson liked it!
