Let's say you smashed your leg and they needed to replace one of the bones. What if instead of titanium they used wood for the artificial replacement bone!

How long do you reckon it would last? Wood rots from bacteria and fungus right but wouldn't inside your body be pretty much sterile? Your immune system would kill the wood eating micro organisms so I don't see how it would decay. Or would your body try to break it down and absorb it??

the inside of the body is not sterile, far from it. fungi and bacteria inside the wood would multiply extremely quickly due to the near ideal living conditions (moist, healthy supply of nutrients (you), nice and constant 37.5 degrees etc.) which would enter your vascular system and kill you very quickly.

Additionally, the body would reject the wood, detecting that it's a foreign object and most of your leg would rot away on it's own as a result.

Titanium is not rejected by the body because it's biocompatible and is also non-toxic.

It seems like every night you post some ridiculous hypothetical question that no one could possibly care about enough to ask... why?

He likes to think out loud sometimes, he's not a bad lad though, I quite like old Kwerk actually, he cracks me up sometimes.

You off to pump iron now Bennie-Mac? I've been keeping one eye on your routines in 'Sports arena' really interesting stuff mate, nice one.

Who wouldn't want a titanium bone? If They would let me I'd have all my bones replaced with titanium ones and become invincible like Wolverine...

:p

Plus it is stronger than steel and one of the strongest metal. So if somebody punches your face or nose, they will only have themselves to blame from the excruciating pain they experience :D.

unobtainium is from avatar not the core.

Ahem. The stuff in Avatar was just a replacement for "gold" in the story of Pocahontas that Cameron had to rip off after spending all his money on special effects and fancy cameras and not having anything left over for a decent story or script. But that is another matter.
