Thoughts on how BF4 might run on APUs?

I'm running a 3770k, 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM and a 3GB R9 280X... BF4 runs fine in multiplayer maxed out (1080p), but has stuttering issues and frequent frame drops in single player for some reason. I wouldn't expect much from a 6800K to be honest, but if you get a good dedicated GPU then i'm sure it'll be ok once they iron out a few bugs ;).

I`ve played the Campaign 3 times and have yet to experience a crash. I can`t speak for the multiplayer side of the game, as I never play it. Most new games have bugs and this is no different, certainly not the worst.

I've seen buggier games - but they tend to be (mostly) from developers who are on their first or second game/major engine revision and relatively new to it all. You expect a lot better than a developer who has been around over 20 years, been a major name in the industry for more than 7 years and with multiple battlefield titles under their belt to learn from.

I agree, but what you expect and what you get, are two different things. I always expect some bugs or glitches in any new game, regardless of who makes it.
You would however, expect a company that has made multiple BF games to come up with a decent story, but that did`nt happen either.

Bugs or not, a 7660 GPU to Crossfire will certainly help, as will fast RAM paired with a CPU/GPU overclock. The price of a 7660 and fast ram may just come to over £100 but performance gains will be impressive considering the price paid. Overclocked RAM (if you cant afford new ram) helps overall performance a lot on APU's, overclocked integrated GPU will prevent the 7660 card in Crossfire to be not clocked down as much and a CPU clock will give you much better performance in multiplayer.

If you recently bought your rig, i suggest you return the motherboard for an FM2+ one, so the socket isnt dead. The g1 sniper is affordable and comes with impressive features and build quality and is probably the best thing out there in terms of performance with a small price tag over other boards.

Best bet is not to get a APU if you want to do gaming with decent FPS.. but since you have it will probably run at 25-30fps on 1080p..on single player... if you plan on playing on maps of 64 man... I'd say 15-20FPS..

You paid something like 100 pounds for this APU... Come on, you cant expect it to handle bf4 on ultra... Lets be serious people, you going to need to spend around 300 on GPU Alone to get close...

Here you go,

Gonna save this post for future reference (thanks stulid).

OP has 4gb of ram, so his frame rate may well be lower, especially if he has 32bit and only 3.2gb available. A fast RAM upgrade might make the difference between playable and not playable.

oh god, try and save up for a GPU as your APU will not run latest games (especially FPS) at a stable playable frame rate. you need the min to be at least 30FPS...

Cheers Stullid, interesting.

Would you mind giving the CPU and graphics a good overclock and retest?

the 68000 is a little bit better, you'd possible get playable 30fps average on low with decent ram.

Impressive, and with 2400 memory and an overclock this would be pretty decent I expect! I'd personally consider mins of 23 to be playable but some would have seizures...

Sorry but ive taken the system apart again after that testing, back to my beast for proper BF4 action on max settings.

While it is playable for some at these settings, OP has lower speed RAM and only 4gb of it. Normally it would be enough but since we are talking APU's, he could really suffer from lack of ram. If he is on 32 bit windows, it is even worse as just 3.3-3.5 is available to him. The tiny bump in stock clock of the 6800k will not match the high speed RAM stulid used in his benchmarks. Though you can clock ram that high, likely you will need to loosen timings on old RAM and to match the speed and in the end will show little or no improvement.

If OP struggles on BF4 after the CPU and IGPU is overclocked, i would start with a £100 upgrade for a 6670 to crossfire and 2 x 4gb of 2133 ram.
