Well, I've decided to buy myself a decent headset after going through about 5 pairs of cheep and nasty £15 ones from Tescos, and have been looking at the Sennheiser PC161 headset. From all the reviews I've seen on the internet, it seems like a decent headset, and it's in my budget (which is around £50)

They seem to have more praise then the Medusa headsets but would like to know your thoughts / suggestions on the Sennheiser headset before I buy anything.

Cheers in advance.

I have the PC160, they are excellent, great range, solid bass reproduction, brilliant quality mic, never any problems since i got them a year ago. I would guess the PC161 will be the same or better so i'd recommend them.

Haha you've swung me too, i'll be ordering them wednesday night when i get paid (and before they come off deal of the week) :p I own a pair of the HD555's and i love them, hopefully the PC161's will be equally as pleasing :)

Let us know how you get on.

I'd especially like to know how good the HD555's are for directional sound in gaming, compared to gaming headsets like the 161.

well, I've not had experience with the 161's but I use 150's right now which are very similiar I believe. Very good, happy with them.

These definately worth buying then chaps for gaming and also voice? Want to take advantage of the offer before it goes... :)

EDIT - Just bought a pair, we'll see how they do tommorrow combined with an X-Fi Gamer. :D

They're exactly the same price now as they were when the offer was on... was a bit of a con to promote sales before dropping the price methinks. There's been quite a few "This week only" offers like that. :(

Reading some reviews I saw that some people say the mic isn't the best quality and is a bit quiet. How do you find it?

Thanks.

It's been ok for me... I use it for Dragon Naturally Speaking 8 and it seems to work fine.

Read the item descriptions, and compare the differences. :)

I've only just realised that the mic doesn't disconnect from the headset. This is a little disappointing for me. I was hoping to use the mic separately for a few things without having to wear the headphones.

I've only just realised something regarding this headset - it says the 2 plugs that you plug into your soundcard is 9 feet long, but they only split 4 inches at the end - My question is, what if you want to plug the headphones into your Z-5500 control center located on your desk, and the mic around the back of your computer? There is about 4 feet between them, not 4 inches. What can be done about this?

Thanks,

Simon

Well, if you're going round the back of your case to plug the microphone in, then why not just plug the headphone jack into the back of the soundcard, too?
