Thoughts on Shuttle XPC SX38P2 Pro?

To be honest Mike I am really not sure. With it having a custom made psu too I wouldn't say this would be the first case I would recommend. Simon might know more about that aspect of it though.

My reasons for opting for this case were because it was cheap, allowed me to use some old hardware (cpu, memory and graphics card) and had Dolby Digital Live on board for outputting to my amp. Works perfectly for my needs but I am hoping I don't come across the day when I need to switch out the psu.

Hey mate,

Thanks for the reply :) I have an e6600 and 4gb ddr2 spare so I was tempted to try a htpc build. I found it for £130 also and its extremely tempting

I have to say I am really happy for what I want it to do. It isn't noisy on its quieter settings and is fabulous build quality. For my first foray into HTPC builds, it has been ideal and is giving some old hardware extra mileage.

Whats expansion like mate? Would I have room for some sort of pciex card with hdmi and a pciex 1x tuner card?

Edit : Any chance of a few more pictures please?

It has two pci-e slots but like any case in that situation you would need a single slot card to make sure you have room for the tuner too. I had my old GTX 260 sitting around which I stuck in there. The card is pretty mammoth so it fills both slots. No room for anything else in there. Had to modify the card's housing at the end where the ATX power connector to the mainboard connects too.

-BA- how much did you pay for the IR board? Just got myself a new Xbox360 remote for £7 and I want to use it with my shuttle, which as you have discovered, is a fantastic little piece of kit.

Hi quickshot, this is the link to the one I bought. You are best off getting the USB one rather than the CIR one as apparently the CIR one is designed for Intel boards so there could be compatibility issues with a Shuttle board.

Not sure if you have the same case as me but check you have somewhere you can house the board and make sure there is somewhere for the signal to pass through to the sensor. If you are using the same case as me then just above the 5.25" bay is perfect and works a treat.

Right everything is setup and working perfectly, expect two things

1) When i use the remote it turns my xbox on, is there a way to disable it on the xbox360?

2) I have the new black xbox360 remote, which i think was released at the same time as the slim, i can navigate forward in the menus, but i cant navigate back, any ideas?

Try taking a look at this link. I had a similar problem and think I fixed it with a registry fix. Not sure though because I use a Harmony remote so I can control what signals are sent when I use the remote to launch XBMC.

will i fit a hd5850 in one of these I am planing on upgrading in the summer and to make room in the antec p190 I need to move my Q9650 into a new home.

couldn't resist at the price they were going for, on arrival the build quality is first class and will be a retirement box for my current setup.

I have this now and while the PSU fan has a little mechanical whine it isn't as noisy as reported elsewhere although it's using on average ~110w with the hardware in it so the PSU isn't being taxed all that much.
