Thoughts on this 370z

Hi Guys,

I've been looking at a 350/370z for a while now. I've been looking at more and more expensive models for the last 6 months and I need to buy one before it gets ridiculous. I've been seriously considering this one:

The price seems good considering it's only 18 months old, and still has half it's warranty. It's done a few miles, but I'm thinking that's not too much of an issue. I won't be piling them on myself so the resale value should be ok.

Before I make the 3 hour round trip to inspect it (tomorrow), are there any comments you guys would make about it? Any tips for things to look out for on the test drive? (including how to judge the health of the clutch!)

Any help would be appreciated. (I know this is a repeat of my post in the z thread, but that wasn't getting any love ;) )

Any serious thoughts? Sorry, I should have mentioned that in the OP.

It looks no different to this one to me. (except the colour obviously)

When I was looking at these most reviews said that the Z4 or Boxster (or another Porsche) are better. Probably worth driving all three before deciding?

At 18 months old it's half way through the warranty period so apart from the normal checks you do when buying a car everything else should be covered by the warranty I'd have thought?

Also, they say it's got 18k miles on it yet the closeup of the odometer clearly shows that it's closer to 20k  that would put me off the dealer tbh.

Yes I noticed that. I decided that would be part of my plan to get a few quid off.

The boxster has the same engine issues as the Cayman at the age I would be looking at. I really don't like the shape of the Z4 hardtop.

This one is really stretching the budget tbh. I thought that the extra would be worth it considering the warranty.

Thanks for the heads up. I've just checked though, and seems fine to me. I guess I'll find out when I phone in the morning.:D

Link works, I just placed a deposit. Haha bet you head butted the screen!

I was seriously considering a 370z, its 4wd, powerful enough and a V6. The interior quality is just shocking though, it's just so...dull, hard, plastic.

I would suggest an Audi TT-S or a newer 2.0T TT.

I lol'd when I saw they use the same steering wheel on the 370z as they do on the Juke!

I would rather have a Z4 35i for that money. It's faster, has a nice interior, better looking and has a higher spec.
It will still lose a fair value off that price, regardless of whether or not you pile the miles on. Look at the value of 350Z's these days, you can pick one up for £6k.

Cheers Panthro. I don't expect to keep the thing for 8-9 years. Those £6k 350s are 2004-5. Like I said, I'm not a big fan of the Z4 looks. The convertible is fine, but I'm not looking for a soft top.

Lol Zain. It's always a bit of a worry when you ask about something like this. :D
The 370 interior is a massive improvement on the 350. That's on a par with an Impreza. Oh, and 4wd? You might be thinking of a skyline?

I can't click the link at work but I'm guessing it's not a cheap one (less than £15k) in which case I would implore you to have a look at a Boxster S. The engine problems are massively exaggerated, you can get the cast iron warranty through a main dealer if you want and in my opinion it's a far superior car.

Unsure of your budget as I can't see how much the 370Z is.

It's £22k window price.

I'm sure the boxster is a great car, but it's a convertible. Also comes with porsche costs. I know a 370 isn't cheap to run, but it'll be cheaper than a porsche.

You can have a million cars to choose from, go for the one you want not the one others would want. The Zed is a great car.

You can get a Cayman if you don't like a convertible.

3 years ago I purchased a £22k Porsche from a main Porsche dealer, it came with 2 years warranty, I extended the warranty for a 3rd year for £650~. In my 3 years of ownership I paid £0 in repairs, I serviced the car once (only needs servicing every 20k or 2 years) which cost £400~, I didn't need to replace the tyres, brakes or anything else.

In 3 years of ownership if you exclude the fuel costs my GFs 1.4L diesel Polo cost more to run (tax, warranty, repair costs, tyres, etc....).

Buy a £8k Porsche and you'll probably spend that again running it for 2 years, buy one from an OPC for £20k+ and the running costs are actually pretty cheap. You're already looking at a big engine car so I'm assuming fuel consumption isn't a massive issue.

Plus the fact that the Boxster / Cayman is probably the best small sports car in the world.

Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying buy one - I'm saying don't just discount it and at least test drive one.

Yay, a bit of support! I've booked a test drive this afternoon.

A bit anxious about the previous owner who also has a modified mustang... Apparently this was his daily car, but can't help thinking it might have had a tough start in life. The guy also failed to service it when it reached 9k miles. A full service has since been done and they say the warranty is still valid.
