Thoughts on this ebay reply...

He's either being a dick and scamming you or being a dick.

Either way, he's a dick, so don't worry.

He's considering doing a chargeback over £4? If he gets arsey again, clearly state that you are following the appropriate procedures and that his information is required in order to follow them. As someone said before, he has to give you certain information.

To conclude, he does sound like a massive erection, so get the deal over and done with and move on, and think about how much better you are than him. :)

I have escalated the claim in Paypal, will provide them with copies of his messages and proof that i'm willing to give a refund once I get the comic back.

Nice surprise from Paypal, they gave me an option to issue a refund once the item is returned, basically means that he only gets his refund when I confirm the item has been received, nice to see the ball in my court for a change, normally the buyers get shafted. :)

what so you wait till you recieve feedback first?

thats a good idea , might try that although i might not type it on the page.

When selling I always wait for the buyer to leave feedback before leaving them any.

When buying I always leave feedback as soon as I receive and am happy with the item.

I thought it was like an unwritten rule of Ebay tbh?

wow you have a lot of time on your hards all this trouble for £4 and then to bother to claim from RM.. thats about half a days work for £4..

still the guy sounds like a peeenarse.....

Never had any real problems with ebay but I recently sold a laptop and the buyer said the screen had got damaged in the post and sent it back to me.

Only problem is that he did not use the original packaging which means that I cannot make a claim for damage from Royal Mail.

I called Paypal and they told me to tell the buyer that unless he can return the original packaging, then he will not get a refund.

He's now logged a claim with ebay so i'll have to see how it goes. He is saying that I did not tell him to return it in the original box and playing dumb.

I'm not even sure the damage to the laptop screen has been caused by Royal mail as it's like a 'smear effect' accross the lower left of the screen like heavy pressure has been applied with a cloth.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTa...x/IncomeTax/Taxallowancesandreliefs/DG_078571

Done some research, if you earn £100k a year or less than the maximum personal allowance is £7,475

So yes the money you earn on the side doesn't need to be taxed.

that is incorrect,

he earns 21k,

he is currently taxed on 13525,

he should now be taxed on 13525 + what ever extra he earns

thats the way I understand it correct me if I am wrong, though of course he must deduct the cost of travel to the post office, his dedicated internet line, office space, meals with clients, laptop etc... (i think 2nd homes, hookers and porn can only be claimed if you are an MP)

Honestly, i'm probably not going to claim, just his whole attitude makes me want to be as awkward as possible for him. If he had been friendly I would have issued the refund immediately and just trusted him to return the comic.

OP has been perfectly professional and polite. The user has been a knob. Sounds like he has the social ability of a honey badger, tbh.

For a standard comic, a "DO NOT BEND" card-backed envelope with extra card slip at the front is perfectly suitable.

So if I were going to be 100% legal about this, what would be the next step?

However as I mentioned, my work contract states i'm not allowed to run a business outside of work, so this is where it's a little complicated.

Sounds like you know a little about comics Pestilence.

I send all my comics the same way, double comic boarded front and back in a comic bag, wrapped with brown paper, parcel taped, clearly addressed with PLEASE DO NOT BEND in big letters, first time i've ever had a complaint.

On the flipside i've received a few comics in the way that you stated that did arrive damaged as sometimes the other sellers don't "secure" the comic so it rattles around in the card backed envelope.

Sounds like a douche to me. Don't see what is unreasonable about just posting the item back. You have offered to refund + postage. I'd be satisfied with this. Can't see what more you can do. **** happens, things get damaged etc so I don't know why some people make such a simple thing so difficult. Good luck with this moron.

so does mine but ^%$£ them...!!!

none of their business anyway as long as you dont do it while at work (read dont get caught doing it at work)

technically I believe you need to register as a sole trader and get some accounts done...

I'm sure there must be a limit on what you dont need to declaire as if you make £10 a year extra they dont (I assume) expect you to declaire that - or maybe you are

anyway I have a company name and get an accountant to do a set of account..

I pay tax from my normal job, and then tax from the business

A £4 comic and he's behaving like that? What is wrong with some people that they can't have common decency towards another person any more.

On a side note apparently HMRC are implementing software to search through online selling methods (e.g. ebay) to identify people who are running a trade and not declaring it with them. No idea how effective the software is mind you! :D

Should be ok for an £8.5k turnover in the timeframe stated - of course it should be declared on tax return but TBH for £500 profit by the time you factored in depreciation on computer kit, lighting, heating, petrol, shipping..... it's probably not going to be much of a bill, if anything.

But that £7,475 tax free will be part of his PAYE scheme, so he does.
Not having read the whole thread I may have missed something but turnover is different to profit. If companies paid tax on their turnover we wouldn't have a recession! Well we probably would as nobody would run a business.

I think this has been blown a bit out of proportion - best bet to anonymously call HMRC and put a 'general enquiry' to them, if they ask you who you are just don't tell them.
