So for the last few months i have been looking at getting myself a new shape Focus (it seems to be a Marmite type of thing, and i love the new look) - here are some details on one i have found, and id love your opinion on the one thing that worries me - the mileage.

Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 5-Door "Climate Pack"
Engine is a Ti-VCT(sp?) type engine, the 115bhp one.
05 Plate, registered in March 2005.
Ex demonstrator model.
Absolutely immaculate.
20,000 miles (!)
Looking at the price list these ones are around £14,000 new.

And have so far haggled for:
3 year warranty (already had two years, so haggled for an extra year),
Car mats,
for a final price of £9,000. This is from a main Ford dealer, and the price is decent because of the high mileage, but im not sure if its something i should worry about?

Thoughts? Opinions? Help? :)

One of the car Supermarkets, cannot remember which, has 55 plate Focus 1.6 Zetec Climates for £8995.

Broadspeed.com has 1.6 Ti-VCT Zetec Climate 5 door for £11500 brand spanking new.

Alright cheers guys, worth looking into - im going to take a look over there now, but do they do part-ex's?

I take it your not suggesting going after this one at my local gaff then?

£9k isn't a bad price for a main dealer. £2500 is a reasonable saving off a new one from a broker IMO. 20k miles isn't anything to be concerned about.

If you're trading in and they've given you a good price for your car it looks a good deal to me.

Yes but just bear in mind, the price reflects how badly treated it will have been in its childhood.

I doubt the typical Focus purchaser who will have tried the demonstrater would have thrashed the pants off it, if they were that sort of driver they'd not be after a 1.6.

Thanks for your help guys, on having a look around at Broadspeed i may go for the easier option of the local dealer. Im going to go back down and have a chat tommorow, i have seen another one at one of their groups dealerships for the same price with 10,000 less miles - so will try and get a similar deal with that one before i start looking more seriously at Broadspeed...

Cheers :)

Edit: I finally feel like this is the car thats going to actually last me a few years, had a test drive today and was dead chuffed - she really held the road when i put it under a lil bit of pressure...like a dream i tells ya...

...well, compared to the Smart ForTwo i currently own! :p

Well Broadspeed is not really any more hassle and the guy you actually give your hard earned too and collect your car from is actually... your local dealer :)

Sorry, 20k on a March 05 plate car is high mileage!? WTF?

I'd get a brand new one if you can stretch to it tbh!

Riiight....methinks i needs to look at the site in a little more detail. ;)

Concentrate this time richie....

Have you had a test drive in the 1.8 or higher?

I don't know what the new ford engines are like, but I have a 1.6 02 focus and I have to admit I do find it underpowered.

I didn't notice at first, but sometimes the power just isn't there to pull away comfortably into traffic.

But that's the old focus, for all I know the new one might be completely different.

Broadspeed pass your order on to the dealer who will do the car at the cheapest price. It is highly unlikely this will be your "local" dealer, but it will be a UK main dealer for the brand you're buying.

Am getting slightly annoyed with Broadspeed. Everytime i go past the choosing the car, and going on to the "Your details" page (the title of the page is all i can seem to load), it will just sit there - the page is apparently loading but theres obviously something not right, is it working for anyone else or is it my problem?

It does seem like a better idea for an extra grand or so to get a brand new one, plus i want a Magnum Grey colour which none of the cars i have come across seem to have...
