over priced and under powered esp as the review below compare it to the P340 which only scores 1304 passmarks on cpubenchmarks.net passmark software compared to 2500 of an i3 380m / i3 2310m. This only just scores a bit higher than my old Lenovo G555 with an m320 and although it is ok for basic tasks, I wouldn't want it now.

These fusion CPUs are not designed for performance laptops, they are really powerful netbook / ultra ultra portable geared to compete with the Intel ULV processors with longer battery life and low power consumption. Really starting to grind with me seeing all these manufactures including them in entertainment systems.

The AMD A4-3310MX (Codename Llano) is a dual-core processor for entry level laptops. It is part of the Fusion family of APUs (=Accelerated Processing Units) and features an integrated Radeon HD 6480G graphics card. The processor core is clocked at 2.1 GHz base clock speed and is able to automatically overclock up to 2.5 GHz (TurboCore, depending on temperature and used cores).

The processor core is based on the Husky familiy 12h. Compared to the older Phenom II mobile processors, the Husky core is very similar but features an additional hardware divider. However, the performance per clock should be similar to the old Turion II, Athlon II, Phenom II mobile processors (as the Llano APU they did not feature a Level 3 cache).

The performance of the processor part should be comparable to a previous AMD Athlon II P340 (2.2 GHz Dual-Core). Due to TurboCore the single threaded performance should be slightly better and the multithreaded slightly slower. Therefore, the performance is clearly worse than similar clocked Sandy Bridge based processors (e.g. Core i3-2310M).

thanks fella for the reply, if you where going to get a new lappy for £600 what would it be?

what do you want it for, does it have to be a 17"? for this money take a look on dmxdimension.com for the dell deals as they will list the best deals plus they list bonus coupons. once you have the system code, click through from topcashback to get an extra 5%-10% back as well.

If you want an HP laptop wait a bit they may be making price reductions as with the Touchpad. HP are pulling out of the hardware market.

Andi.

This is speculation at the moment. Announcement from their CEO yesterday made specific mention that they would continue with PC / laptop hardware and only WebOS hardware is ceasing

...and if you wait till the price of pc hardware drops, the next thing will be out and then you'll have to wait for that to drop, and repeat - buy the best you can for your money at the time you need it!

I see no reason for them to exit the pc/notebook market unless it is operating at significant losses which cannot be rectified through altering the model range and means of distribution.

imo, HP home systems are not good vfm at retail compared to alternatives but this gives no indication of their profit to point of distribution (i suspect pretty low). they are the system of choice in the big high street home/elec/pc retailers at the moment (possibly due to very low unit costs with HP trying to buy market share and wide range?) so the public are steered towards them. this is only in the UK though and I don’t know how they fare in other countries.

however, their corporate and business systems are in a different league quality wise and are some of the best built systems you can get, and in many cases the better specced ProBook notebooks can be had cheaper than the home systems. but again, profit on the business systems is probably very low although they obviously prop up their own global staff base. Most small businesses and even the larger corporates seem to go with dell these days.

I imagine HP’s main money is in the IT consulting and corporate server infrastructure.
