Thoughts on using your real name for a domain?

That's a nice idea with the email address.. shame my sir name is only 3 letters in length though and all taken!

Domain squatters annoy the hell out of me.

I use firstnamesurname.co.uk but I haven't yet done much with it apart from using it for file storage.

I can't really see any problems with it compromising your anonymity.

I have surname.co.uk which I use for professional email, and have given family accounts/forwarding from.
I also have fullfirstnamesurname.co.uk and .com and shortenedfirstnamesurname.co.uk and .com, the intention being to have them as CV/business card sites but I've not really got around to it.

I have my main handle as a .com, .co.uk and .net, and a tendency to get it on other domains if I see them cheap. Use this as my primary email and as my primary hosting domain.

I don't have any problems with having my name on there, although I try not to have my address on whois.

I have my realname registered. Although I only actually use it for e-mail, I don't have a site up there yet.

Quick... some one register the domain for Skillmister's name.

I have my real name in both .co.uk & .com The .com sends you to .co.uk though just registered so no one else could have it. Don't really use it for much at the moment but now use it as my main email.

If someone can be bothered enough to put the time in, they will probably find out who is really behind the domain, privacy or not. Try not to be silly eh. Knowing your name and address is irreverent to anyone trying to do something dodgy.

How could they find out who owns the domain if it's set to private?

I don't think he was being silly at all. The fact is you can't always see a name and address with a whois, exactly as he pointed out. You just seem a bit butthurt because you didn't know it was possible to have a private registration, hence you originally saying "even if you use false details" rather than mentioning private registrations. :D

I've got firstnamelastname .net and .com, I mainly use it for important emails and on my CV. I've had them for years now.. I really want to get the .co.uk domain though but someone already has it! :(

I've been meaning to register my surname for years but never got around to it

My firstnamesurname.co.uk is already taken by some blogger :p I'm just going to add '3d' or something to the end of it

edit: and it just links to another site :o damn him

I have grodecki.co.uk and use my email as Jordan(aadddco.uk. My details are all over the web on domain registry info anyway, I'm not paranoid :)
