Thoughts ...

In regards to the Mobo, I must admit after using the Nvidia chipset I still lean towards the Intel's but with the P35 chipset, is that not Crossfire only? I know at the moment Sli is not across the board but would but nice to be able to use it when it becomes more standard.

By then though, their will be much better boards out.

100 quid on fans.... if you get a cheaper case because you dont need all those fans and the nvida logo and take off the heatsink you could buy water cooling for that.

Its not the case with the Nvidia logo, thats the 830 and I don't really have any interest in Water cooling as I said above.

SLI will never become standard or become near standard.

This is what I would buy.

I know you said you wouldnt like watercooling but it will be much easier to do yourself really. You set up the components so you dont have to worry about 'a leak from a dodgy pump connection' 'cos you can fit everything yourself and make sure its all leak proof. Dont have to worry about crappy watercooling parts. Just buy the best you can.

Jobs a good en. :D

As above id also recommend a Lian Li v2000 or v2100 series due to the hefty componants your sticking into this and its fantastic cooling properties with minimal use of fans. Also its capability to hold HD's and PSU in seperate compartments.

Also i can relate to your watercooling reply, agreed it is too much agro tbh, and if your wanting to go for a QX series cpu, you probably wont need to o/c it much, so air cooling would be suitable, water for bragging rights tho :P

if your using your 2 24" displays for Rendering and Professional work etc. then perhaps yeah getting 2 cards would be great, not for SLI on the 1920x1200 res but more for the ability to have graphical accelleration on each display.

If your just sitting playing games, stick with your config, get a Lian Li and flog your 2 displays and invest in a 30", at least then your pumping juice out those 8800's.

Otherwise, take one of the above mentioned configs and buy a decent set of alloys for yer moter ;)

I wouldnt recommend buying the Ultra ... theirs a £94 difference between the OCuK GTX & Ultra and no way are you getting an extra £94 worth performance increase, The Ultra's a waste of money.

Thanks for your feed back, You make some valid points and I really like the system you listed. Perhaps I could give water cooling another go, but you know what they say once bitten twice shy and all that.

Been reading up on that and I agree the ultra is not worth the extra, next steps down are just and good.

Sorry was meant to be a GTX.

Just didnt change it lol.

GTX and watercooling = win for you. :)

+1 :)

The beast holds 12 internal hard drives, perfect should you feel the urge to have a lot of data. If that isn't enough, convert the 5.25" bays for even more hard drives lol.

Hmm I know its a bit of a thread hijack but ultras clock a lot better than gtx, you can reach a considerably higher clock on them. imho its worth paying an extra 100 odd quid for the utlra if you are enthusiastic about overclocking, otherwise stick with the gtx, its a brilliant card

Don't spend money for the sake of it. You are far better saving half that cash for upgrades down the line when next gen stuff comes out. The 8800 Ultra is a complete waste of cash as the GTX is only a fraction slower. The QX6800 is also a waste of cash. Get the Q6600 and clock it. As for water cooling, you guessed it, another waste of money. Get a top quality air cooled case like the TJ09 instead. 1kW PSU's are just not needed, get the Corsair 620.
