They are when they know they know they are not dealing with a Tin Pot outfit. US is like the typical playground bully at school, happy to whip the small boys ass but when a bigger boy / nutcase boy comes along he runs home to his mummy crying like a fag.

You also need to take into account leadership.

If we get some pro-Armageddon (waiting for the rapture) bible thumper's in the white-house again I would not bank on it quite so much.

In reality I agree, it will be a very expensive & bloody/difficult fight - but underestimating foes & overestimating abilities seems to be one of the main skills of most major army's.

This is why I'd only wager money, I can't say for sure - but It would not surprise me either.
