Having been checking most days to see if 4G is going to be coming to my town (Colwyn Bay), i discovered that today they seems to have cut their rollout plans.

http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/When_will_I_get_4G

Colwyn Bay was on the list and now it's not, it now also says towns & cities to be upgraded by the end of 2015, it used to state by the end of 2014. Needless to say i'm a bit gutted but it was obvious they weren't going to make that date.

So they have revised the towns & cities that were due to be upgraded which involved removing a load of places from the list as well as adding a few.

Opinions? I'm personally gutted that it's been cut to that degree but i and quite a lot of other people knew for a while that they were not going to make that amount of places 4G enabled by the end of 2014.

The rumour is that 3UK's parent company is in talks with Telefonica trying to agree a deal to buy O2 UK.

That might be putting the brakes on their LTE rollout plans.

Seems they've also cut my town too. Bit pants tbh. Might have to go else where as signal has got worse in my area as it, now they've dropped upgrade plans.

What I have noticed though is they've been improving the 4G in and around my local area.

I now pick up a usable 4G signal indoors, and a town a few miles away got 50Mbps inside a school with thick walls!

Not good, my town has also been removed. Just joined Three aswell a couple of months back when it said 'end of 2014'.

Stockport still there, now says 3 months in 2015

just checked the coverage map and my house is now in the 4G area (indoor and outdoor), it wasnt a few weeks ago when i last checked.

still no 4G symbol on my phone though lol

That's down to Three giving out the BS like all the operators when it comes to coverage just to keep the regulator happy

(I work for Voda, not the UK part) On VF-UK I can get >120MBit at their HQ in Newbury, I get a bit less on their test sites, everywhere else is 30-50Mbit on LTE depending on time of day (eg right now in suburbia swindon I'm getting 42MBit). 30-50 is fairly easy to get, the other speeds are rolling out in 2015. I appreciate that not all people will be able to get this, I report all dead signal areas as a matter of course to VFUK.

On the M4 though it's obviously impossible to get signal between jct 14 & 15 though because it's a black hole :| And around jct 12. Can't believe green park has crap signal.

I'm with o2 they put 1 4g mast in our town now I get next to no voice signal and pretend 40 that flips to 3g at super slow speeds when I try and use it.. So bad I had to give up on Google maps altogether

I work for Vodafone Group, not Vodafone UK and am not able to comment on their plans accurately. The truth is the same as when I worked at EE, it's not profitable to put masts in the sticks. Try to check all networks you plan to use with a PAYG SIM first.
