Haven't posted for a while, and was just going through a few of my pics of swimming, for the club newsletter and found these, and thought I would share.

Firstly we have possibly my all time favourite (so far) photo that I have taken of swimming, it is of one our senior girls Becki.

Shot with my old Canon 300D and my Sigma 70-200 f2.8.
Settings were
Aperture f2.8
Shutter 1/1600
Focal Length 122mm
ISO 100

Secondly we went to Hungary over October half term and the pool there was fantastic, 50M 8 lane and all to ourselves.

That was shot with my new 40D and the kit 17-85mm lens
Settings were
f4
17mm
1/49 sec
ISO400

Still getting used to my new camera then and forgot about the auto ISO hence 400 when it should have been a bit lower really.

Finally one of my step daughter Charlotte, having just finished one of the sets.

Again my 40D this time with the sigma 70-200
Settings were
1/256 sec
F5
179mm
ISO1000

ISO was 1000 because I had set it at that for some shots just before, but this one of Charlie was a snap decision, and I did not have time to change the ISO back down.

Anyway hope you enjoy and of course any and all C&C extremely welcome.
 
May i ask why you shot with such a low depth of field for the second one? Did you, i take not have a tripod and that you had to use that to get rid of blur?

Got it in one, I do not have a tripod yet so it was hand held, so it was a real compromise shot. The lens has IS but it did not seem to be making much difference, I did a few shots at different settings but the one above seemed to me, to be the best of a bad bunch.
There was a table nearby that I tried to move to use that, to rest the camera on, but I got shouted at by the lifeguard so figured it was best to leave it.

We are going back there next year, and by then I will have a tripod and a better lens or two, (but don't tell the wife!!!), as the kit 17-85 is not the sharpest in the book, so hopefully I will be able to do the pool justice.
 
Nope no flash, just a combination of luck and a nice wll lit pool. :D

The pool has a number of roof lights to let in sunlight, the morning of this shoot was very sunny outside, and she managed to swim through one of the patches of bright sunlight just as I took the shot.
