Read up on the case of Sylvia Likens -- one of the most harrowing and despicable things you'll ever wish wasn't true.

Not that hard, depends on how he lured them in, maybe he drugged them and wrapped them up, then once in a soundproof basement then who's to know. Hmm better not give some people in here ideas...:p

It's not exactly rocket science - people have different preferences. Do all you "horrified and shocked" people gasp out loud every time you meet a homosexual too?

There are 7 billion people in the world. Statistically you got enough of a sample size to get an individual for pretty much any set of characteristics imaginable.

If they kidnapped and raped people against their own will for 10yrs, then YES !

Only the most evil people in the world have no empathy for someone else's feelings. I'm starting to think that you fall in that category.

But that doesn't answer the question. There is no way that they would have believed that what they were doing was anything other than plain wrong, evil, or however you wish to put it. To do something so wrong, they must have gone through some kind of process of rationalising their actions to make them seem acceptable to themselves - otherwise they could not have continued.

Like all sociopaths it's a power game. They like having control over something living. It just so happens this bunch were not that bright obviously and I'm sure there are ones out there that will never get caught but sadly that's how it is.

There's no way to justify these actions though, lack of empathy of this magnitude means there's something wrong deep down with that person.

Hell, just looking at the photo of the girl re-united with her sister in the news article brings a nice warm happy feeling.
