First of all let me say these wines are anything but reasonably priced although you can pay an awful lot more for some of the more fashionable Bordeaux wines.

Here are three of my favourites - two from Bordeaux and one from Burgundy.

Château Léoville Poyferré, St. Julien 2003 - (€115)
Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac 2003 - (€65)
David Duband Les Procès, Nuits-Saint-Georges 2005 (€33)

Don't be tempted to pick an inferior year as the difference between vintages is quite large.

You need to take care of these wines and store in good cellar conditions - around 12C and around 70% humidity. In any case all of the above are ready to drink now.

If anyone else has any first-hand experience of other fine wines let's hear about it.

Ah yes, 2003 was fantastic for Bordeaux, being the hottest ever vintage recorded. Pauillac in particular produced some great wines, as you have pointed out with your Château Pontet-Canet bottle.

Care to share your tasting notes on these wines as I'd be interested to hear what you thought?

Look out for 2009 and 2010 Bordeaux in the future as these were also excellent vintages, buy En Primeur if you can, to get the best value for money or as an investment of you really know what you're doing.

Have you drank all of your Grange yet? If not, give me a bottle! :p

Not at that level but realy been into Albarino and Verdejo recently, problem is Albarino has beome the in thing over last few months so there is a lot of crap as well as the good stuff, Verdejo seems more consistent

Also been trying various Sancerre and Pouilly Fume

Drinking a white Bordeaux as I type but it's not that good

My dad has a 2001 Château Lafite Rothschild which he has laid down for my sisters 18th birthday. Should be a cracker come December.

I had a great cheap and cheerful Shiraz over Christmas on the other hand. 2005, 14.5% Hellfire Bay £10 a bottle.

I just cant get into wine, my palette is useless as long as its not a 4 quid bottle of vinegar anything 1/4 decent all tastes the same as expensive ones to me.

Scotch now ...... mmmmmmm :D

But not too high as this can damage the labels and make the wine unidentifiable, also knocking a lot of the re-sell value.

Spie

totally agree on the Château Léoville 2003, very drinkable

may i suggest a Château Montrose, 2005, that is probally one of the best wines ive drunk, and quite reasonably priced too.

Thank you for the recommendation. Looks like my merchant has it in stock so I will be picking up a bottle on Tuesday :)

cool let me know how you get on, me and the missus worked our way through a bottle of Luig Bosca Malbec 2006 whilst at Gaucho on Friday.

I'm not a bit fan Argentinian wines but i might make an exception here.

Quite unbelievably, my darling wife has just given me this for my birthday.
