Three outstanding Bordeaux and Burgundy wines

I've recently tried a Bouquet of Pheasants, 2009 Shiraz. It's probably not as exciting as the wines described above, and is quite sweet & fruity, making it unappealing to many, although I absolutely love it. Give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised. The company also produce a few other animal related named wines including a Flock of Emus :D

Over the weekend I had a bottle of 2005 Château Lagrange, St Julien. I very highly recommend you try it, as it is excellent value for money and is easily one of the best Bordeaux reds I have tried, and it certainly has potential to open up more over the next 5-10 years.

I shall look out for this. Thank you :)

Well Mr mangobreeder, I'd like to thank you for that recommendation. It was superb. Such intensity of smooth deep blackcurrant with a really long finish. I'm going to hunt a case or 2 down.

Probably the best bottle of Bordeaux wine I have tasted so far.

I recently tried a few when in Bordeaux doing some wine tasting:
Chateau Le Conseillante, Pomerol, 2006 - V good
Clos Fourtet, St. Emillion, 2004 - Good
Chateau Palmer, Margaux, 2004 - V good
Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan, 2004 - V good
Chateau Lynch-Bages, Pauillac, 2004 - My favourite of the lot
Chateau Lafite-Rothschild 2004 - Great, but bonkers price

Having said all that, I'd never buy any of it, as nice as Bordeaux is, to me it doesn't make sense from a value perspective!

On another note, when I was in San Sebastian recently a chap in a Pintxos bar was telling me he was at Arzak and a couple turned up and ordered a bottle of Chateau Petrus (not sure of the vintage). They sat down, only had 2-3 dishes, and after the bottle was decanted had half a glass each, gave the chef a glass and left - with about 2/3 of a bottle remaining! Pretty vile really - I would have gone over and chugged it :)
