Three Wont Let Me Connect To Google

For the next month I'm going to be using a Three sim, but I noticed I couldn't connect to Google Talk. I then realised I couldn't even use google.com or any other Google products.

If I connected to WiFi and connected, I could then disconnect and carry on using all Google services on mobile data.

If I lost connection though, I couldn't connect back until I did it through WiFi again.

Another friends on Three has reported the same for about a week and that Three claim it's a problem with Google.

He says even if he uses an IP address instead of a .com, it still wont connect.

Anyone else experience this? Any ideas?

Yes mate. Orange SF here running latest CM7 Rom.

Was it an Indian call centre that told you it's Google's fault? In my experience, they don't actually have any technical knowledge whatsoever. They're just paid to "take your call" and give you a false sense of customer service.

Does it happen with all Google apps? Including Maps and Gmail?

Sometimes (very rarely maybe once a week) I need to disable and re-enable my data connection as it sort of locks up. But this affects ALL data, not just Google.

I have the exact same issue, Orange SF on 3.

Gmail app hasnt been updating for new emails for a little while now, I thought it was just an app problem, although I also noticed google.com wasnt working too so had to use yahoo !

Just tried gmail when connecting to wifi and works as normal, back to 3g and nothing :(

So for you, even if you gain access through WiFi, it looses that once you go back to mobile data? Mine at leasts holds it until I lose all connection again...

What on earth could this be that it only effects some of us. Would different 3 users around the UK connect to different DNS servers as I see A2Z is in London too... (like me)

Are you also on an orange sf, as Two people with them have problems. The rest of us with other phones don't have an issue.

If you are on an sf, I would surmise it's something to do with the phone/rom.

I've got a Desire & have been on 3 for ages, The only issue I had was related to the googlemail/gmail bug.
If you are using gmail then try switching back to Googlemail, Long shot I know but I thought it worth mentioning.

Oh, interesting thought. I've been gmail for a long time. How would I even go back to googlemail?

**EDIT** Also, I thought the bug went the other way. People with googlemail had some dns issues and so should switch to gmail?

My bug & plenty of others I read popped up about 3 weeks after switching to Gmail, Switching back to Googlemail sorted it once I cold booted my moby.
You switch back via Google settings on top right corner of page.

I'm looking through, I don't see the option to go back? :( Can you be a little more specific please?

Do you then have to stay as googlemail? Again, surely this points to Three having DNS issues? Honestly, I'm more likely to just use GiffGaff and ditch Three (just trying PAYG at the mo).

Depending on how far you are willing to go, if you've rooted your handset you could install a terminal and check if you do a full trace route to google (command is "traceroute http://www.google.co.uk"). If it's a DNS issue then it's either ongoing (as rebooting flushes your DNS cache) or 3 made a mess of their DNS or possibly NAT.
