Thrones and Liberty

its a free MMO that comes out tomorrow. And im sure there are things to buy like all games so could well be ive not played it yet. But i suppose that comes down to how hard you grind and if you can get evertyhing you can pay for.

Guild Wars, WoW, FFXIV are the main ones.

I know there are elements (level boosts etc) but I'd rather pay a monthly sub and be on a (relatively) level playing field. I know lots like the P2W model but it's not for me.
wow you can buy gold , gw2 gems to gold , FFXIV yeah agree on that unless you can buy boosts ? :)

While there are undoubtedly elements of p2w in those games (technically you can buy boosts in FFXIV), actual P2W games are a completely different model.

You genuinely don't need to spend any money outside of a sub to play the hardest end game content and carry on progression. I've never played a P2W where you don't have to spend a considerable amount of money (or literally grind 24/7) for the same thing. The money spent also often involves gatcha mechanics, which is a no from me. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with enjoying this type of game, it's just not for me.

You can buy carries with real money in WoW that will give you BiS gear. That is literally the definition of P2W.

I think there needs to be a line between some third-party services being able to give you an advantage and being able to buy an advantage directly within the game because of the model that is used.

Otherwise you can technically call any multiplayer game P2W with the third-party services on offer nowadays.

You can buy WoW tokens directly from the game menu, then flog it on the AH for gold, then pay for carries to get gear and achievements.

Sure, it's different, but it's also pretty much the definition of P2W.

That is why I said I think there needs to be a line because there are levels to it.

Using your logic, every game becomes P2W. You can always pay someone, directly or indirectly, to boost your account or do something for you.
