I'm living in student accommodation and looking for a better isp as talk talk are heavily throttling our speed

at some times in the day, i can start a download and it will run at 3mb/s and will gradually get slower until its is in the kb/s.
sometimes it will be so slow, we can't even load webpages smoothly.
it really ******* me off!

were not in a fibre area (even though we live on a campus 50 yards away from the university) and we are only offered 8mb/s (which speed tests confirm to be true)

so everytime i use an internet speed test, it shows 8-meg, but when i use the internet or try and stream low quality iplayer, it constantly lags and buffers-even when speed tests have shown (whilst iplayer is buffering) that the speed is still around 8 meg :confused::confused:

***could it be the router talk talk provided? there are 4 people using the wifi at any given point + phones and consoles.****

thanks for the recommendation!
But were on a 12 month contract :( so i will try them when it runs out in august.
the package looks good, AND its the same price as were paying now :D

Well that sucks. However it shows you may be able to get Virgin Media. Can you check to see if you're in a Virgin enabled area?

You can get 30mb (soon to be 60mb) for £22.50 per month for the first 3 months then £27.50 per month after that. No line rental either, so it'll be just purely broadband you're paying for.

As a student myself I highly recommend this, after all we can get pretty... bandwidth hungry ;).

The VERY VERY annoying thing is, that on my street, Fibre is not available! even though it has only students living here (who would all sign up to it).

i think our only option would be to use what was mentioned earlier, and go for the priority (pro) service :/

Check with yer neighbours n stuff see what kind of speeds they see.
Could be just poop ISP.
Have you called their tech desk?

Double check that the 4 people you mentioned none of them are seeding files on P2P.
If they cane the upload you'll notice it on pretty much everything connected
