oh and this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-010-OB&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=

i've been running in a circle most the day any pro's and cons to each system AM3 appealed because of possible future support for hexacore

£450 is a max limit could possiblt stretch 500 all those above system seems really tempting

mainly gaming and browsing + photo shop X2 ultimate(i don't even know what encoding is )

knock out the I3 mate only thing that might interest you is the AMD bundle or I5 personaly I will go I5 for what you want to do I7 is a little too expensive in bundle form, unless you get some cheaper stuff with I7, of course you maybe able to get that stuff by calling ocuk and asking them to change the bundle for you :)

for examaple this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-283-IN I7 920

mobo:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-332-AS

RAM http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-016-PA

cooler: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-008-TI

BIG BIG BIG SPANNER THERE i7 for £500

I managed it but I had to make some srot cuts ;) there is a gigabyte for £10 less than the asus ;)

sorry about the memory I just couldn't get a decent cooler with the 6Gb set modules i was going to spec

clock for clock, maybe maybe not, but it will be for the other stuff you want it to do, not by much mind you I m just trying to make the most of your money

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts/Far-Cry-2-1.0.1,1401.html

there you go, it only takes stock clocks through so you will have to work it out, there are quite a few charts from in game performace charts too windows app performce, of course I7 is on top

again, only showing what you could get for £500 and i managed it just

Out of the three you listed bigjimmyauk I would probably go for the i5. :)

whats would be exactly the benefit of i5 i'm thinking long term it's gotta last me a few years i'm also thinking amd's 6 core will also be am3 which could be a bonus if the mobo will support it ?

i think we'll leave low end i7 and think more high end amd or i5
good one on the i7 tho.

i find this rig in sig really can't keep up with photo shop x2 the brush always lags behind the mouse :( not good

What do you use your rig for? Do you use it for cpu intensive tasks?

said above gaming a lot. RTS,crysis,Adventure,Browsing, and photo shop which is a challenge on this as it don't keep up with my brush which is just not funnny at all.

honestly i don't even know what encoding is let alone how to do it

he allready said what he uses it for in op and before yours

internet, some games but mainly photoshop and general tasks

@bigjimmy

based on what you said i would go with the AMD build if you want it to be more futureproof but as we all know in computer land, futureproof doesn't exist reallly.... only reason i would go AMD is that as you stated it will be moving to 6 cores.

i would rather buy the parts and overclock it your self saving you some money.

btw what psu you got?

yeah you will need the I5, don't know much about AMDs 6 core atm how expesnive etc bulldozer should be good through (off topic) unless that is it o.O ?

it should last you a few years as it stands intel sucks for futrue proofing, unlike AMD

gradned AMD PII home will be gaming http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts/Adobe-Photoshop-CS-4,1387.html lookie

its up to you, can't go wrong with ethoir tbh who cares if its alittle slower and I mean a little.

so i couldn't really go wrong with either i see the i5 is a little faster in cs4 which is a good thing.
Amd was a little faster in some tests but not many
honestly the rampage mobo does look nice tho which might swing it for me as there is not a lot in it. appreciate the advice by the way

psu is being upgraded to a new psu with 8pin atx power

Sorry, getting late and brain not functioning.

In that case it doesn't really matter that much, whatever you get will be a vast improvement on what you use atm. I'd still go for the i5. Just my 2 cents.

i prefer intel over AMD :P but your budget and the fact 6 cores come out on AM3 and not I5 is what sways me oh and the mobo is quite sexy lol

yeah i know i frequently visit the asus site to look through the specs again and again seems win win with that mobo
on fly profile switching WTF from 3.4,3.6,3.8 ghz More win
flashy lights= win
lcd display=win
think it's the most exspensive am3 board tho correct me if i'm wrong

yeah but its ur basic price for a decent I7 mobo.. you should get a sound overclock from ur AM3 chips too if you go for it
