Normally you only see post of people complaining about Dealers so I thought I would post my positive experience.

So I bought my girlfriend a 2006 Bmw 335i coupe from Southport BMW in May for 21k, unfortunately the car seems to have been a bit of a lemon and has been back to the dealer a total of 5 times for some quite a few problems.

I called Southport several times to speak to the sales man who never bothered to call me back, so I finally asked to speaker to the used car manager, Phill. I explained the situation and he was kind enough to offer me a full refund on the car and will collect it from us next week.

Used car prices have gone up 3/4k since we bought the car but we are pleased that we are not stuck with the car.

We have found a replacement car which she will go and have a look at this weekend.

Really? how comes?

That'll be the reason he wanted it back though and didn't kick up a fuss!

Because there's a shortage of used cars at the mo as most fleet operators last year extended the leases on their cars rather then sell them on at the low prices being commanded at the time. There's also a shortage of nearly new and ex-demo cars as most dealers have cut back on these to save money and manufacturers have also stopped stockpiling cars some of which they used to get rid of as nearly new.

I thought the car was your Dads? You posted up a link to the PH sale of it the other day? Looked nice. Blue one?

Blue one was my dads which he is selling as he wants a CLS.

The graphite gray one was my girlfriends, which will be replaced by another 335i as she really loves the car.

Yeah some places are good like that, unfortunately not many good garages like that!

Bought a new BMW 535D a couple years back from BMW Park Lane, was having problems with the Auto gear box. Would drive fine otherwise but whenever you needed to stop at traffic lights (or stop wherever) the call would stall. They tried to fix it but said it needed a gear box change which would take 2 weeks due to them needing to order the parts in. Wasn't happy to wait and told them to either knock off some more money or give me a refund, they weren't willing to knock off money as it was already heavily discounted so gave me my money back.

Strange, why didnt you just take a loan car for 2 weeks?

I think up by £3/4K is a bit of an exaggeration - there's no way a 2006 335i coupe is worth £24-25K at the minute.

Yah as I said we over paid for the car at the time, we paid 21k and it was only really worth 19k max so the prices have gone up 3/4k but we are not going to benefit that much because we overpaid in the first place.

My dad paid 17 500 for his 335i (blue one) which is around the same spec as the one we have but with 15 000 fewer miles on it.

The one we are going to have a look at is a 2007 an its 25750 pounds but thats a E93:D

overall I am very happy and the dealer has come up trumps + the misses wanted a convertible in the first place.

Yeah, that sounds a bit more like it!
I picked one up myself (blue as well) a month or so ago, loving it so far.
I think I got a decent deal and looking at other prices reckon I could make a couple of grand profit by selling it straight away, but there's no way I'll be doing that :D

Yah they really are nice cars, 306 bhp and 25mpg what more can you ask for?

We did try and think of another car but we just could not find anything better for the same money.

The S5 is a little to expensive for what it is, RS4 is a little too aggressive for her, M3 was out of our price range and the running costs are frightening so the only thing that really ticked all the boxes was the new Z4 however they are too new at the moment so we may come back and look at them in a year when we chop in what ever we buy now.

Strange, why didnt you just take a loan car for 2 weeks?

Because I was pretty ****ed off that I'd spent nearly £40k on a car which had 10 miles on the clock and a faulty gear box! I took it to my local dealership they said they had fixed it, turns out they hadn't solved the problem. I then rang Park Lane up and the salesman drove out himself to pick it up, they said they fixed it and as he was driving it back the problem came back. So almost over a week had been wasted already and he told me a minimum of 2 weeks and it could have even taken more as the parts had to be bought in from Germany. To be fair the salesman was really good about it and understood where I was coming from, he was shocked himself that a brand new car could have such a major fault on it.

In the end I ordered a new 535D, the one I had before was the pre-facelift model and this time I got the new one and had it customised to my exact specs which was nice. Cost me a bit more but it all worked out for the best because this time I had exactly what I wanted whereas before even though I was getting a cracking deal on the car there were a few things I wanted which it didn't have.
