Hi there

Well done approx 100 miles tonight in the motor. Was in Macclesfield with a couple of m8's and as usual had to pay a visit to the local Shell as it was refill time again.
Anyway after filling up I was sat in car waiting for peeps to come back from buying sweets to stuff down their faces and a officer of the law comes up and has a good look round the car. He says to me "beutiful car and I bet it goes some" and then he went on to inform me how they had a speed trap up the road which is a long wide road that eventually turns into a national speed limit but is 30mph up until then. He made me aware how the Police had camera up on the road and were catching plenty and warned me to watch my speed as he was saying if he had a car like that it would be hard to keep at the speed limit.

I am just happy how a Police officer was kind enough to inform me and possibly save me from a fine and points. He also never bothered about the small number plate on the front, maybe with it been American he just assumed it was OK. :D Though I have gotta say out of all the coppers I've come across they have always been polite and never cocky. :)

Anyway had a great drive and turned off traction control for the drive home as I want to see if the rear end was tail happy and am happy to report it still gripped superb, obviously I am still taking it easy but am now getting used to the LHD and thoroughly enjoying the car. :)

Despite the bad press and general discontent, my experience with the police round here has been generally good. As long as you dont do anything outrageously stupid, they are quite understanding.(touches wood)

Which road was that gibbo?

Shell garage in Macc near Tytherington and if you carry on down the road pass the garage towards Bollington its a good straight but is 30mph until you get to the national speed limit bit which brings you out at Bollington roundabout where if you go left your heading for Prestbury/Stockport....

He is always in town, unless im mistaken.

Still yet to see the car except for outside OcUK (had a good snoop).

Not see camera's/traps on that road for a while actually.

I have a couple of policeman who I know quite well, would probably call them friends...and in the 3/4 times I have been in situations where I or the person I have been with has been pulled over the officer's have always been polite and friendly.

Treat them with respect and they will more than likely respond back in the same way; they are humans like us after all.

It does happen. I was taking the Alfa out for a spin - at the time I must have been 21, and at the petrol station they had a chat... "say that's a really nice car..." "What is it?" (classic question with the Alfa), "I bet it shifts some..." Anyway after all the small talk and making sure I was legally entitled to drive it they asked if they could have a spin in it as they were going off duty. It was quite fun actually. I was nervous as hell though.

There are some good cops around - and there are some jobsworths too. It makes the nice ones appear so much nicer though. :)

Nice story there Gibbo :D Glad you're enjoying your new beast!

I've ended up talking to the Police twice since Sunday and in both cases the officers involved were top people.

On Sunday I asked an officer for directions when I got lost in Bury St Edmunds (for 2 hours) and despite the fact that you could smell my clutch 3 counties away and you could fry an egg on my brakes he asked me very politely to be careful driving round town and gave me the directions I needed.

Tonight I was filling my car up with petrol when a beat Police Woman came out of the shop/station, I acknowledged her and ended up chatting about cars for 10 minutes.

I'm sure that like with any job there are a few ejits in the Police force ruining it for the rest of them but my recent experiences have been VERY positive and as a result I am more than happy to listen to and obey an officer of the law. Thumbs up all round ;)

Ahh yes i know it well. I always wanted to boot it on that stretch but never did. :D

I got pulled for doing 40 in a 30, I was late for work and he let me off with a warning, I was nervous and I think he could tell.

the traffic police up here are fantastic we get police meets at the headquarters and they always give a wave if u see them.

they are also on fifecruisers board as liasons about legal questions, shame that every police force cant provide such a service.

I get pulled now and then and they check to see if the car's mine, wonder over at petrol stations to check it's all valid and MOT'd etc...

I have to echo the comments - every police officer I've met has been friendly, geniunely nice people who are helpful.

I know now that next week I shall get fined 100 quid for doing 31 in a 30 :D now that I've said this!

:p

I know a few police officers and I can honestly say its like any big organisation or work place: you get some good ones and some idiots. I've been pulled over as part of a spot check operation just before christmas 2004. No problems with them doing that...but for somebody on their way to work it could be a lot of hassle.
