The thunder storm is outrageous. We're getting lightning flashes literally every few seconds. I wonder if I should turn off and unplug the pc.

Surge protector is the way forward ;)
 
Surge protectors about as much use agenised a lightning bolt as an ice cube agenised a forest fire.

Best unplugging anything valuable and reading a book.

Yes, but it helps against surges from power cuts (caused from the bad weather)... which is my point :p
 
Just had that there as well. Electricity went off for a few seconds and my router lost connection for about 5 minutes. Best lightning storm I've seen in years with constant flashes every few seconds.
 
We've never had anything come through the electical sockets but a few years ago our tv arial got hit by lightning. Blew 2 tv's, VCR and a hifi that were interconnected.
Fortunately my tv was going through a signal booster and the lightning didnt affect it!

my desk lamp is flickering and Sky died for about ten min too

Thunder and Lighting has eased off here now (Paisley)

Thank god cos my connection was dying every 2-3 minutes :mad:

Still bucketing it down now, and it's 13 degrees outside!
 
awww theres a storm coming here and im on my own, not usually scared of that sort of thing but its not very nice when your on your own in a big dark house :p

A bolt struck in our back garden late last year (I seem to remember a thread on the topic). The surge protectors managed to protect the PCs, however the surge travelled up the phone line, knocking out the phone for about a week and turning my fancy router into toast :(
