Is there an extension for thunderbird to allow a icon to display in the taskbar when a new post of any rss feed is available just like an icon appears for new email?

Thanks

Neil

Cheers, I anticipate your reply. Having a notification icon in my taskbar when a new post comes in would be extremely handy. If emails can do it then why can;t it for rss posts?

Thanks

Neil

TB3's ages away yet, so it's quite possible it'll be in there - it shouldn't be too hard to do.

No one able to make an addon to do this?

If there was some interface that would let you access that data, maybe. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a pre-existing extension to do it.

Is anyone else a little disappointed in the lack of updates on Thunderbird? I can't stop using it yet there are other clients out there which are better.

Outlook :'(

I think it's because Thunderbird is very buggy when it comes to RSS feeds. If my PC happens to crash when TB is open all my feeds become corrupt and it will download all the feeds again, and again and again.

Also I would like to see more features like have it running in the background. Faster IMAP etc. I know there are extensions out there, but some things need to be built in.

Just my 2 pence anyway.

Yes. Mozilla has prioritised FF for ages so TB was never that important.

AFAIK none of the Fx developers have anything to do with Tb.
I'd suggest the biggest reason Tb development (on the 1.8.1 branch, at least) has been slow is all the upheaval with the move to Mozilla Messenging, some of the developers leaving Mozilla etc.

I'm not really that surprised by the lack of updates - there's only so much a mail client can do, and the limits that are put in place to make sure all your extensions don't break with Thunderbird 30.0.0.1337 when they worked in 30.0.0.1336 mean there's only so much you can do before you'd have to call it Thunderbird 2.5 or 3.0 (and then you'd get someone moaning that their extensions had broke, there weren't many shiny new features or whatever).
