I am trying out thunderbird with gmail imap. I have two accounts and set the first one up fine but going through setting up the second I find that it is trying to use the same outgoing server as the first acc. In the options dialogue there is a warning that using two outgoing servers can cause problems and is only for advanced users.

I don't really understand this. If I have acc A and acc B then surely when sending from acc B it needs to go through the acc B server? At the moment the default is to send emails from both accounts through the first accounts server with the first accounts login details. They are both gmail accounts but won't the sent emails from B appear to come from acc A if they are sent through As server and logon?

As you have probably gathered my knowledge of email technicalities is pretty rudimentary ;)

You mean use the same SMTP server to send mail?

They're controlled by Tools -> Account Settings -> Outgoing Server, and each account also has an option for the server to use.

Yes. When setting up the first acc it asked me for details of both incoming and outgoing servers. For the second acc it just asked for details of the incoing server but set the outgoing to the same as the first acc with no option in the setup wizard to change it. Having setup the 2nd acc I went to the smtp server tab in the options, thinking to set it manually, but saw the warning about using more than one outgoing server.

I just don't understand how it can send emails from the 2nd acc through the first acc server?
