thunderbird problem

Lo all,

Im having a spot of bother with Thunderbird, whenever i write an email all the words come up as being mispelt (have red lines under them).

Ive looked through the options for Thunderbird but have found nothing, wondering if anyone knows what might be wrong?

If i have to reinstall will it be ok to do so over the existing program without losing current setings/emails?

Spellchecking's ok for me - but (as with Firefox) I'm running a nightly build (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1a3) Gecko/20060613 Thunderbird/2.0a1 ID:2006061309).
Are you running the latest (stable) version?

Should be. Back up your profile first though, just to be sure (%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\).

What a coincidence, I had just the same problem today!!

What you have to do is when you do a spell check, make sure that English/United States is selected under 'Language' at the bottom left of the pop up box.

Sounds crazy and simple, but that's what I did and it worked.

Iirc it has the 'Download More' option in that box as default, so make sure you have english selected and all shoul dbe OK.

Might be something to do with copying over a profile as I was doing the same job.

There's no download more option in this version (beyond the link) :confused:

You can download a en-GB dictionary too.

Sorry Tolien, my reply was in answer to MNuTz as I'm guessing he has the standard version of Thunderbird which is what I had the problem with.

Just untick the "spell as you type" option in the "options" menu

I find that no matter how often I install the English/GB dictionary it never appears as a selection in options.

I didn't claim otherwise. Just bizarre the option even being there...
