Thunderbolt Display Fullscreen issue?

I have a macbook pro but everytime i full screen anything the thunderbolt display goes to a gray colour and i cant use it as more screen realestate?? is this a common problem?? or is it just apple messing buyers around??

Sounds like you've got the MBP screen set us primary:

Open Display Preferences
Select Arrangement
Select the little white bar at the top of the smaller screen and move it to the larger one

This will make the TBD the primary screen when connected to the MBP. In OSX when using fullscreen only the primary monitor can be used.

It would be so useful if you could have dual screens with 2 full screen apps going. No idea why that hasn't been sorted

I have two external monitors attached to my mbp.. so its twice as painful for me. lol

Hyperdock, is a nice work around.. if you drag a window to the top of the screen max that window and dragging it down restores it to the original size.

it also gives all the snap to features that windows given but not shake to get rid thou

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous they haven't done anything about it yet. As above I use a window snapping tool (moom) or BetterTouchTool which is free as a workaround but it isn't quite the same.

Yeah, that does annoy me too, at least at work where I use dual screens.

I think it's because Apple want you to use spaces instead, but there are times where you just need 2 monitors. It can't be that hard to make a UI that allows 2 screens to go into full screen mode

I wouldn't mind so much if Spaces would expand so that if you have two screens plugged in then it'd use them. Or if you were using 2 screens and then unplugged them to use only the internal screen it'd automagically stick the 'desktops' into Spaces
