Hi,

I have an iMac i7 and a MBP Retina.

I have a Thunderbolt external drive with two thunderbolt ports.

When I hook the iMac or MBP up separately via a Thunderbolt cable the HD shows up fine on both machines.

When I use two Thunderbolt cables and try to hook both machines up the HD only shows up on one Mac.

Should I be able to read/write from the HD from both machines via Thunderbolt ports?

No!

The second port is for daisy-chaning devices, not connecting to a second machine.

Also, it's a powered bus so you could do some damage by plugging in to two machines at once. Not trying to scare you ;)
