According to Google Thunderbugs is another name for Thrips. Which are about 0.5 to 1.4mm long and have a habit of crawling into everything, such as the space between a monitors backlight and panel.
The ones I'm looking at are about 2- 3 mm long x 1/2 mm wide and black . As said they do have a habit of crawling into the space between the back light and the panel.
You realise when you see the damn thing walking inside your monitor.
Very difficult to get rid of - did read that a light shone alongside can tempt them out and it has , I think, worked before but it could have just been dum luck.
It's really a problem when they die on screen. Daughters laptop had 2 die and proved impossible to remove
I had this on a very old LCD and thought wtf is that and then another and then another. It was only when I took the mnitor apart did it come to light what they were. Nightmare things and I live right near wheat fields
Saturday & Sunday I had to live with the windows closed because of them. (cannot believe the heat in the house even if with all blinds closed)
They are a menace for us who live in the countryside.
However when it rains, they disappear until is dry again.
(believe me looking the forecast when going to rain to open the windows in the summer, isn't funny)
Best thing to do I found was switch the monitor off and put a light near the top to draw it out. I have had loads in my monitors over the years and found this the best method.
But yes they are a pain in the rear for people who live in rural areas.
I had one behind my screen yesterday, thought it was a dead pixel until it started crawling (Then died).
I got a pencil rubber today and started applying pressure to it and it fell away like a lemming off of a cliff!
My office window was covered in them the other day. Luckily my screen survived without anyone getting inside. Our curtains where not so lucky and everywhere with 2 pieces of cloth put together is infested with the horrible thunder flies. I absolutely hate them with a passion.
