Apologies if there is already a thunder thread for this year!

Quite windy in early hours in Southampton, but it eased off around 0900, up unusually early and thought about a ride until I saw scattered thunderstorms were expected around 1130.

Band moving through, roughly Bridport to Reading.

Had it move through here about an hour ago - some quite big bangs but sporadic and seems to have quickly moved on.

Yeah, seems I spoke too soon about wind dying down, we've just had some 50mph gusts!

Good job I didn't head out for a ride, just remembered we have a food delivery coming shortly.

Earlier it looked like the rain had passed through Hampshire much quicker, but now more rain in area and odd rumble of thunder.

Big thunderstorm passing through east of me Dorset/Hampshire - we are on the edge of it currently. Some absolutely massive thumps in the distance.

EDIT: That was short lived though still the odd background rumble and heavy rain.

Just lost my BT and EE connections after a big rumble of thunder dunno if related and my Vodafone connection is super slow.

Weird patchy storm around the mid south - keeps jumping around and just as you think it is done another outburst of rain and thunder.

I almost phobicly hate thunder storms , I use a lightning app on my phone and it's pretty reliable at giving me warnings.
To me they either signal death or the hassle of having your house blown up

Pretty scary one just down the road from me, fortunately the renters had left 2 weeks earlier, hit by lightning and it blew all the cabling out the walls like shotgun blasts going off everywhere - tore the place to shreds.

You wanna see the storms we get in South Africa. Thunder that will make your house shake on its foundations and lightning that will light up the sky as far as the eyes can see, and it'll go on for hours. Not a bang every now and then, but every few seconds at most. It's genuinely one of the most awe inspiring things you can witness, truly breathtaking. It's something I always look forward to when we go on holiday.

We had one like that in Edinburgh about 5 years ago. It was mesmerising to watch.

Not blown up but had damage to two tvs and video recorders as well as a pc when I had lightning strike the telegraph pole in my garden.

Loads of houses in Saffrica have lightning conductors installed. Always on thatch roofs, generally on houses with pools, and sometimes on houses that have neither. In a lot of cases you get reduced home insurance if you have them installed.
