hi, i know this isn't really a pc hardware question..

my car amp blew the other day, took it apart and its a thyristor that is blown.
I have the numbers written on this:

FKV550
37 T

Where on earth can i buy another 1 thyristor to solder onto my amp, Save me £150 buying a new one. This amp is kenwood, not sure if this should matter..

Thanks

Semiconductor describes part of nearly every electronic component. ;)

EDIT: And by that I mean that I don't think that the part you're looking for is simply called semiconductor. Can you take a photo of it? Many electronic parts have distinctive shapes that can help in identification.

only it is all black.

Does it have the metal part? What you have in that photo is a voltage regulator module. They dissipate a lot of heat so they're usually paired with a heatsink.

They are power MOSFET transistors, a common component in audio amps. You will need to replace the blown one, the FKV550T is the part you want. It might be wise to check that nothing else has blown as well. Oh and don't touch the caps without checking their discharged, I got a nasty shock from a digital camera flash capacitor a couple of weeks ago.
