Tidal Lossless streaming

yeah I found the software to be the worse part it was slow and awkward to use.

If they fix that I'm sure it will be fine just a tad expensive

The quality over spotify is immediately noticeable.

The software seems okay so far, not as seamless as spotify but sure it will get there.

It's $19.99 a month for lossless quality, works out more than spotify premium but not a great deal more considering the quality improvement.

Well I'm struggling to tell the difference using my iphone earpods (understandably!), but I can notice it when using my audio kit at home. But I don't want to spend that much on something I'll just use at home.

well no offense but your iphone earpods are $1 pieces of junk.

unless you're using some nicer IEM's you won't get the benifit.

The Iphone DAC and headphone amp is by all standards good but the headphones a

Yeah I know

But it's cool I wouldn't use tidal for on the go my good heapdhones are too big and nice to be out side and i'm not a fan of Iem's so i won't invest in a good pair.

standard Deezer is good enough through my Nu force $7 specials from massdrop.

If I worked from home i'd consider tidal provided the software was good

Seeing the announcement, this is the first time I've heard of Tidal. What is the catalogue like? From the artists announced, it sounds to me like they provide nothing but pop.

That doesn't work well for me as I listen to Classical music and Metal. I currently pay for Google's music streaming service, but they don't offer anything over 320 :( I've recently just purchased the Westone W30 earphones so having the lossless would really sound pretty good to me.

So far:
- Worse library than Spotify at the moment (for me), though should get better over time.
- Costs more than Spotify
- Music quality increase is barely noticeable on some tracks using iPhone 6 with Sennheiser HD25-1 II. I wonder how many morons will sign up to it that will never hear the difference, or don't actually care. Doesn't help that the iPhone (6) amp is only "okay".
- Steaming over 3G isn't great given the size of the steam. 4G was quicker mind (obviously).

I'm sticking with Spotify for now, but will keep an eye (ear?) on this.

Anyone able to say whether the £10 a month (same price as spotify) has noticeably better quality than Spotify?

I realise it's lossy but don't see numbers to compare with each service in this regard.

Will keep my eye on this but ultimately they need to make it work with my Fire TV's before I'll be switching.

Also be interesting to see how Spotify and others respond.

they are (spotify and deezer) both working on it. They have the platform already it's just liscensing and server bandwidth which when they are so much bigger will be more than just improving the data. :o

Qobuz never affected deezer or spotify's growth.

Thanks for this. I hadn't heard of Qubuz until this post. I'm on the trial for the Lossless Classical.

So far so good and I get my wonderful Classical music fix.

I'm sure it's also said that Classical is one of the best types of music to hear differences between MP3 and FLAC so I'm hoping that's right. give this a week of listening and see if it makes my music experience that whole load better.

Meanwhile, what is Tidal's selection of Classical music like?

Spotify Premium does me fine. (Half price as a student :D)

Vast majority of those who sign up will not even know the difference, never mind hear it compared to Spotify's tracks at 320kbps.

as good as qobuz imo.

the offerings are pretty solid tbh .

All I'm really curious about is whether Tidal (or any of the other 'premium/high res/blah blah' services) has better masters compared to Spotify or Google music.

The more time I've spent with my fairly high end DAC, the more I realize that resolution is fairly meaningless for consumer playback beyond 16/44.1. I don't know, maybe I'm just deaf to the 'benefits' of higher res music but I just don't understand this obsession with high res audio.

MASTERS MANG!!! That's what counts.

I don't think we are able to hear much, if any difference between 16/44.1 and 24/96 or 24/192. What I think happens is that a lot of the albums available in these higher resolutions have been carefully remastered to make the most of the higher resolution and what we are hearing is the result of this careful remastering and not the higher resolution itself.
