Hi all! Bit of a random post, but I had idle Temps of about 25C until tonight. I tidied up my cabling a bit (and broke a cathode ray tube :() and now my idle temps average at 15C!!! That's a drop of 10C just from rearranging cabling! Woot!

what are you using to measure temps?

your sig is also more then 4 lines (read FAQ) - viewed under 1920x1200, 1800x1440 and 1280x1024

Using RealTemp 2.70 to measure temps. To be fair, I have moved house tonight, and this room could be a degree or two colder than the last place... but 10C? I don't think so!

P.s. Sorry about the sig, will fix it now!

Core Temp is saying 23,24,21,16, so that averages at 21C, still not bad.. though not 15C either :P But either way, the drop in temperature is still about the same, as I think RealTemp just uses a lower TjMax.

Another one....

Your CPU temps can't go below ambient, so im guessing the 15 deg one is wrong.

Unless your room is very cold :D

Not gonna start on the whole thermodynamics thing but your temps arent going to below ambient with air cooling. Update your bios. Youll probably find theyre in the 40s.

My room doesn't have heating, and its -2C outside at the moment. A cheapo thermometer I have says its 9.5C in here. 15C is a bit above ambient =P Brrr, I hate winter :(

well it really depends, do you have a before and after cable management photo of your pc?

Unfortunately not... didn't think of that. But I have a side fan for intake, and a rear fan for exhaust, with a Freezer Pro 7 pretty much perfectly aligned between them. Before I had a large bundle of cables right in front of the side fan (the big mobo one, plus all the HDD and Optical Drive cables, including an IDE ribbon), and I had one lone cable between the Pro 7 and the rear exhaust, which I imagine would just really stir up a smooth flow rather than block it. But now, I don't! :)

Well in theory if before you did cable management, it was like a birds nest  , then the cables would be blocking airflow and cool air would have a hard time travelling through your case, let alone exhauting it.

Out of interest what case is it?

Its a no-name no-brand cheapy thing I got of eBay for £24 (with free next day delivery!!)

low ambient

I'm guessing the really low ambient room temp may have a lot to do with these low core temps, 9.5 is on the nippy side, unless your from Newcastle of course in which case you'd think it was practiacally tropical. Surprised you're not getting condensation forming on your case window!!!!

my ambient is roughly 7'C (yes 7) and my temps of pc are quite cold aswell, cold house is great for overclocking but really makes you sleepy lol :p

Good god.. buy a heater. You'll get sick if you stay in that temp for long periods of time =/

You should see the state of cableing with my Antec Nsk2480. got 2 120mm fans, and managed to fit 1 92mm dan and 80mm fan on my cooler. Got 2 Hard drives, graphics card and a Ide Dvdrw,

Question, Dvdrw can you still run them off the old power? like some of the old hard drives? the big chunky cable really gets in my way

Well if you mean the standard 4pin molex power for hdd but you mean your getting a new dvd drive (sata) then yes most can be powered by either 4pin molex or sata power connections.

I saw a good oil heater reduced from £180 to £10 the other day in Halfords... I thought it was too good to be true, and told myself if it was still there in a week I'd buy it. I went back recently, it wasn't there :( Oh well!
