Anyone own or has owned a Tiguan?
Considering one for the next 'Pops family wagon to replace the passat estate.

Q3 seems expensive in comparison but is direct comparison?

I've got the spec in mind, R-Line, 2.0tdi 177bhp, DSG, leather, panoramic sunroof. There are a few around second hand but would consider new if I could get a good deal. Broadspeed reckon 29k for my spec, down from 34k retail.

So, anyone owned one?

I don't own one per say, but drive one daily - taking kids to school, shopping etc.

Haven't had any issues with it, a bit sluggish (140hp version I think) but thats to be expected. Ride is good, fairly firm. Personally I don't think the boot is big enough but thats down to your needs.

My work pool car is one of these with only 1000 miles on the clock but with the petrol turbo engine. I'm the only one that drives it and have done many trips in it now.

It's fine on the outside and largely on the inside as well but isn't something I'd want to spend a lot of time driving. It's comfortable but the brakes are sloppy, gearbox is sloppy, steering is too light and you end up turning the auto hold feature off because after a while you realise it's a pain in the arse.

The boot is fine from what I've seen having hauled server equipment and things up and down the southern part of the country.

I had one for a week as a courtesy car (small diesel engine with DSG) and felt pretty much the same.

I think the Tiguan is rather expensive when compared to some of it's rivals like the Qashqai or the Sportage.

It's too jerky and kicks in at times you don't want it to.

I'm a manual gearbox driver so like to control hold myself and not have a system apply the brakes to hold when it thinks I'm going to be stopping for a bit. If you slowly apply throttle from standstill with it active the brakes will grind before it detects you're actually moving and then lets go of hold as well. It's not a nice sound and combined with the weak sounding engine that can be heard from inside the cabin, it's not an experience you want to have every time you move off from stopping.

It's nice to have the option of turning it off, else I'd go a bit mad.

I test drove a Tiguan and Passat before buying another Octavia.

The Tiguan has less legroom than the Octavia in the front.
The boot space is also better on the Octavia.

We have one (as in my wife's)

Great car, like any other new VW, just sit a little higher. Already has 12k on the clock. No problems other than the AC cooling line for some reason came out of its clip and was cut by the belt. VW repaired under warranty.

I now have a Tiguan on order :)

Considered Qashqai but only a 1.6 and I wasn't that keen on such a small engine in that size of car. Specs looked a bit sluggish.

The panoramic roof is impressive. Really open feel. We have ours open full and the windows down a lot. We paid $34k for the SEL 2.0T engine which included the 19" wheels / leather and panoramic.

It's a great little SUV.

Also consider the Mazda CX-5. It is considerably cheaper and actually a very good car.

I can vouch for this. I've had mine (2.2 diesel sport) for around 7 months and clocked up just under 10k miles. For its size it handles phenominally well and now returns around 50mpg which is pretty damn sweet. Drove a sportage, qashqi and Q3 before deciding on the CX5 and tbh it was a very easy decision.
