Just getting around to tiling my bathroom floor.

The floor seems to have just very thin 'mdf' type wood (0.3m) as the subfloor (i think). I have attached a few pictures:

Can I tile on this or do i need put some form of thicker subfloor ply or cement board 6mm?

Many Thanks,

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
Dont tile onto that! You need to rip that up and put down some good sheets of MDF or marine ply and THEN tile onto that!!

What's under that hardboard? If it's a solid and pretty level surface, then you'll be fine with 6mm - marine ply will be fine.

Don't know what's under the hardboard but its very thick, very sturdy doesn't move at all when jumping on it.

I will take up a section now for a picture.

Silly question, but I am trying to find where I can pick up some Marine Ply from (UK) none of the usual places seem to have it.

I am going to pop to my local builders merchant tomorrow morning to try get 2 marine ply boards (85cm by 120cm) at 6mm thickness as any thicker with the tiles on top I believe will be too high vs. the hallway carpet.

If this is not available I am thinking of the cement board as I know i have access to this very easily unless you guys convince me not too?. Also debating going for 12m however im worried this will be too thick and the transition from tile to carpet will be too high. Then maybe using a 'shim' under the carpet just outside to bring the high slightly up.

Whatever it is make sure you firmly secure any floorboards underneath it as well and make sure there is no movement at all. The ones done by the previous owners here keep coming loose and the grouting keeps coming out due to movement

you can use 4mm ply its thinner.then when alls done get a rebated threshold for door way.center your tiles so all the cuttings at side at equal widths.

Hardi backer board sold at most tile places in small sheets. Adhesive and screw at 150mm centres. Use whatever thickness you can get away with. Thicker the better.
