So being I moved into a new build just over a year ago I've decided its time to start doing those little bits that need doing

first item on the list is tiling in the kitchen splashback

Only thing I am unsure on! Can I / is it wise to tile directly onto the plasterboard?

I'll have a look into a glass splash-back pal - I assume you mean glass splash back for the cooker and tile the rest? (so many options!)

Set the tiles out properly, if you use a hob splash back (do) then try and set the tiles out from there either way so you don't end up with a nasty cut in view, then tile in full tiles backwards and leave any cuts to the shadowy spots or the kitchen.

Buy some packers and leave the tile up a bit so when you mastic it doesn't just sit on top and peels off in a month. Mastic a small bead before you tile as well.

Not only can you tile directly on plasterboard, you can also tile onto old tiles if you like, I wouldn't recommend it tho. I do recommend waterproof grout though, and DO NOT BUY WICKES!

Thought about a stainless steel splashback above cooker and tile the rest? That's how I've done mine, screwfix sell the splashbacks, also finished the tile edges off in plastic tile trim

I don't like glass ones, if you get water behind them then the water mark will be a pita to clean as you have to take the splasback off

Cheers gents - thrown up some food for thought

I'll head out over the weekend and browse a few places to see if theres a compromise to be had with the splashback / tiles

Mine is glass from counter to cupboard the whole way round - glass is slightly more expensive than tiles but fitting is a two minute job so worked out cheaper for me anyway
