I have some Arctic Ceramic that I am trying to use on a lapped Q9450 and a H50.

I have reset a few times after not being happy with temps (50`c Idle rising to 70`c load @ stock with sides off case and 2 x Enermax Magma Push/Pull on H50).

I am concerned that I might be either putting too much on or that the Line across the CPU HS technique I am using is failing as I need to turn the H50 slightly when installing it (I hope that makes sense).

What is the recommended amount and technique to use with my kit?

I suppose I shouldn't need too much TIM as the CPU is lapped?

I also have a bottle of high purity isopropyl alcohol and a stack of coffee filters :D

Cheers

just use a thin line about the size of a grain of rice

What he says will apply to your kit. It doesn't matter really if you have to twist the cooler slightly once you have applied the cooler onto the CPU, as the seal will form over time after fitting the cooler onto the CPU.

With single and dual cores i've always done the rice grain method but Arctic recommend a 1mm line travel across the middle of the CPU HS (apparently this covers each die of the quad) when using the Ceramique.

My confusion is arising because as I mentioned the Cooler twisting slightly which would then of course displace where the arctic ceramic is in relation to the die and a 1mm line as recommended is more than a grain of rice, its about 2 or even 3.

take a look at it when you take the block off each time, this will give you a good idea of what coverage your getting. if its not spreading to anywhere near the sides you probably need more, if its going over the edge you need less.

if your really worried about the twisting then a slightly diagonal line might be the way to go, but i doubt you would see much if any difference.
