Lo all,

I understand there's a known issue with the TC dieing suddenly and I'm a bit concerned with my 1TB (dual band).

The thing that bothers me is that there's no off switch or any way of 'shutting down' the HDD. You pretty much just turn it off at the wall.

I've always believed that HDDs don't like to be suddenly turned off so could this be the cause of their short lifespan?

The reason I ask is that my GF turns off all of the power sockets (except the fridge ;)) before leaving the house.

If the TC is getting switched on and off at least once a day, what affect is it going to have?

Cheers,

Panzer

Your GF is slightly over paranoid, what does she think is going to happen?

I'd tell her that it stays on or you remove her internet access.

She turns off all of the sockets to save power, her electricity bill and the environment.

It seems quite sensible to me.

Anyway, what's it going to do to my Time Capsule?

have a ups if you have something like the WD esata my book then its turns on/off with the pc and can now be used as a time capsule on mac. a lot of newer external sata/usb drives boot up with pc turn of when they do seagate freeagents do as well.

so they wont be affectedby mains turn on/off
